Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Alabama High School Athlete of the Week for Apr. 25-May 1 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Thomas Watson, Vestavia Hills baseball: Watson went 2-for-2 at the plate with five RBIs, a grand slam, and a triple in game one of the first-round of the Class 7A playoffs against Tuscaloosa County. The Rebels went on to sweep Tuscaloosa County in the first-round, winning by scores of 19-2 and 5-2.

Charles Farr, John Carroll boys soccer: Farr scored a hat-trick (three goals) in an 8-1 win over Sipsey Valley in the opening round of the playoffs.

Gavin Isbell, Hewitt-Trussville boys golf: Isbell led the team with a round of 71 at the Class 7A, Section 3 golf tournament. He also qualified for sub-state this week as an individual. 

Kaden Heatherly, Chelsea baseball: The junior right-hander tossed a complete game with five strikeouts, four hits, and only allowed two runs in a 7-2 6A playoff win against Cullman. With the victory, the Hornets advance to the 6A quarterfinals. 

JD Wilkins, Pelham baseball: The Jacksonville State commit tossed a complete-game shutout with four strikeouts and only allowed three hits to lift Pelham past Saraland and onto the 6A quarterfinals.

Kenley Holcombe, Mortimer Jordan softball: Holcombe went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, four RBIs, and scored three runs in an 11-1 playoff win against Pinson Valley. 

Naeemah Gamble, Homewood girls track and field: Gamble won the shot put with a throw of 38 feet in the Class 6A, Section 3 meet in Tuscaloosa last weekend.

Maleah Pliscofsky, Pinson Valley softball: Pliscofsky went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs in a shutout 15-0 senior night win against Fultondale.

Brenna Wakefield, Curry softball: Wakefield went 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run and four RBIs in a dominant 17-0 win against Gardendale. 

Lacey Nichols, Moody softball: Nichols went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple, two RBIs, and had the walk-off hit in a 4-3 win over Pell City.
