SBLive Arkansas Super 7 high school softball rankings: Season starts with shuffling, some in holding pattern

The SBLive Arkansas Super 7 softball rankings for March 7-14

Most of the state opened softball season last week with others beginning this week and a few waiting until next week. There are also still plenty of teams who are waiting on key players that will still be playing basketball for another week so. That being said, things could look much different in the next week or two.

The top-ranked teams in each class stayed the same, but past that there were multiple shuffles.

Here are the SBLive Arkansas Super 7 softball rankings for March 7-14.

6A

1. Bentonville

2. Bryant (1-0)

3. Cabot (2-0)

4. Bentonville West (2-0)

5. Conway (1-1)

6. Rogers (2-0)

7. North Little Rock (1-0)

Analysis:

-Bentonville opens its season at Haughton High in Shreveport, La. Friday. 

-Bryant cruised to a 15-1 victory over Pottsville to open the season. They face Stuttgart this week, one of Class 4A’s top teams.

-The Lady Panthers’ offense came alive in wins over Pottsville and Sheridan. They face a tough White Hall team to begin the week.

-West had a great opening week with victories over Pea Ridge and Conway.

-Conway opened the season with a 4-1 win over Greenbrier and lost the next one to Bentonville West dropping them a few spots. They have a tough schedule this week against 3A powerhouse Baptist Prep and Greene County Tech.

-Rogers is off to a 2-0 start, but murderer’s row lies ahead for the next four games facing off against Greenwood, Benton, Conway and Morrilton.

-North Little Rock moves into the Top 7 following a 12-0 victory over White Hall.

5A

1. Benton (1-0)

2. Greenwood

3. Mountain Home (1-0)

4. Marion (0-1)

5. Greene County Tech (2-0)

6. White Hall (1-1)

7. Searcy (2-1)

Analysis:

-Benton shut out Vilonia 7-0 to open the season and will face solid competition in White Hall, Rogers, and Bryant over the next three games.

-Greenwood moves up a spot due to Marion’s loss and will open the season this week.

-Mountain Home got into an offensive battle with Fayetteville, but was able to prevail 13-10.

-Marion fell in its inaugural game but got some great early season competition against Hernado, the defending 6A state champions in Mississippi.

-GCT is 2-0 after week one with Valley View and 6A No 5 Conway.

-White Hall took one on the chin to North Little Rock, and it does not get any easier this week on the road against 5A No 1 Benton and 6A No 5 Conway.

-Searcy moves into the Super 7 following opening week wins over DeWitt and Lake Hamilton, along with a close loss to top-ranked Class 4A Morrilton.

4A

1. Morrilton (3-0)

2. Farmington (1-0)

3. Brookland

4. Nashville (2-1)

5. Stuttgart (2-0)

6. Malvern (2-1)

7. Pea Ridge (0-1)

Analysis:

-Morrilton began the season with a bang notching wins over two Super 7 teams, both from higher classes.

-Farmington scored a solid win over Class 6A’s Har-Ber and will face off at home against Dardanelle this week.

- Brookland will open its season this week in a double-header against Jonesboro Westside.

- Nashville clinched an opening-week victories over Lake Hamilton and Camden Fairview but fell to Ashdown dropping them a spot. They take on Star City and 4A No. 5 Malvern this week.

-After opening week wins over Southside Batesville and Sheridan, Stuttgart gets an early big test over 6A No 2 Bryant.

-Malvern got its offense rolling in wins over Lake Hamilton and Star City but slowed down a bit in a loss to Camden Fairview.

-Pea Ridge experienced some growing pains against Class 6A Super 7 member Bentonville West.

3A

1. Baptist Prep (2-0)

2. Hoxie

3. Smackover (2-1)

4. Booneville

5. Ashdown (4-0)

6. Lincoln (6-1)

7. Paris (2-2)

Analysis:

-Baptist Prep escaped with a 3-1 win against Class 5A Beebe and shutout Class 4A Bauxite to kick off the season.

-Hoxie opens its season on Thursday against Manila.

-Smackover went two of three to start the season and will hit the road three times over this week.

-Booneville opens its season Tuesday at home against Cedarville.

-Ashdown moves into the Top 5 starting the year 4-0 including a huge win over 4A No. 3 Nashville.

-Lincoln has been impressive in the very early stages of the year with wins over Class 7A Fayetteville and 3A No 7 Paris.

-The Eagles were rolling in their first two games scoring 33 total runs but cooled off big time in back-to-back losses to Lincoln and Lavaca. 

2A

1. Tuckerman

2. McCrory (3-0)

3. Mansfield (0-1)

4. Parker’s Chapel

5. Quitman

6. Salem

7. Woodlawn (2-0)

Analysis:

-Tuckerman opens the season against 5A No 4 Marion to begin the season on Monday.

-McCrory is one of the few in the 2A Super 7 who opened its season last week, and they start with three wins in a row.

-Mansfield dropped its opening game 6-0 to Hackett but have an opportunity to get revenge on Thursday against the Lady Hornets.

-Parker’s Chapel opens its season Friday at home against Bradley.

-Quitman opens its season Thursday at Clinton.

-Salem opens its season on March 14 at home against Mammoth Spring.

-Woodlawn is off to a blazing start scoring 25 runs in its first two games.

1. Taylor (2-0)

2. Sacred Heart

3. Wonderview

4. Mt. Vernon-Enola

5. Bradley

6. Emerson

7. Greers Ferry West Side

Analysis:

-Taylor is looking to add to the dynasty this season, and they are off to a 2-0 start with comfortable wins over North Webster and Spring Hill.

-Sacred Heart opens its season at home Monday against Hector.

-Wonderview opens its season at Sacred Heart on Tuesday.

-Mt. Vernon-Enola opens its season Monday at home against South Side Bee Branch.

-Bradley opens its season Monday at Genoa Central.

-Emerson opens its season on Thursday at Bradley.

-GF West Side opens its season on March 14 at Izard County.
