This week's Super 7 rankings

By Kevin Bohannon

We had some big-time winners over spring break as some teams around the state travelled a good distance to participate in prestigious tournaments while other teams played in events a little closer to home. The stretch run of the season is upon us as we are one month from postseason play.

7. Cabot 6-3

Analysis: Bentonville went to Orange Beach, Ala., and went 6-0 on the week winning the prestigious Gulf Coast Classic where they defeated North Little Rock in the semiginals 2-0. NLR is having some success of late and playing to their potential. Har-Ber was also on the Gulf Coast playing some tough competition. They defeated Georgia 6A defending champ Houston County 2-1 and lost to national powerhouse IMG Academy 4-2. Catholic defeated White Hall and LR Christian this week behind superb pitching from Lucas Greer, Camden Tanner and Kade Cartwright. The Rockets have won 4 straight.

Batesville struggled a little bit in Orange Beach getting shut out twice before winning their third of four games. El Dorado has really come on of late as they won the Magnolia Tournament in convincing fashion and defeated the host team 10-0 in the championship. LR Christian is right on the cusp of being ranked. They went 2-1 this week and will be a factor in the 5A-Central.

2. Lonoke 12-1

3. Brookland 7-3

4. Morrilton 7-0

5. Farmington 6-5-1

6. Nashville 7-4

7. Magnolia 7-3

Analysis: No changes in Class 4A this week as everyone outside of Nashville and Morrilton played against good competition in and out of state and won the majority of their games. Valley View finally dropped a game as they went 2-2 on the week. Lonoke continues to play at a high level while Brookland and Magnolia went 2-1 on the week with both schools losing to 5A El Dorado.

Analysis: Ashdown was off this week. Harding Academy looked like the defending state champs winning the Mayflower Tournament. The Wildcats defeated Class 5A Searcy 8-2 behind a sterling performance on the mound from University of Arkansas commit Kade Smith. Gavin Alveti does it behind the plate and on the mound as he had 16 strikeouts on the week and went 5-for-9 at the plate. Camden Harmony Grove won the Mike Volz Classic in Arkadelphia defeating Rose Bud 9-2 in the finals. Gabe Johnson pitched lights out and Andrew Taylor and Grant Bearden homered. Walnut Ridge dropped a couple games but still sit at 4-0 in conference play. Rose Bud is tough to beat with freshman Russ Martin on the mound. Martin carved up Class 2A Horatio in a 7-1 win for the Ramblers. A pair of River Valley teams round out the Rankings in Paris and Booneville. Those two will do battle a couple times over the next couple of weeks.

Taylor tied their games in the Mike Volz Classic while Ouachita went 3-1. Norfork is a team that is making some noise having won 7 of their last 8 and 6 in a row.
