Congratulations to Ashdown softball 3B/SS/UTIL Karielle Forbes for being voted SBLive’s Arkansas High School Athlete of the Week for May 16-22!
The sophomore went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and scored 1 run in the Pantherettes’ 6-0 victory over Atkins in the Class 3A state championship.
Forbes received 59.26% of the vote, beating out Woodlawn's Cale Edmonds who finished second with 15.16%. Taylor's Rayne Cranford finished third with 12.4% and Bentonville West's Tianna Jones finished fourth with 4.94%. There were over 15,000 votes tallied this week!

The junior pitcher struck out 10 batters and walked 3 in 4 innings of relief to lead the Lady Panthers to a second-consecutive Class 5A state softball championship with a 3-2 victory over Green County Tech.
Benjamin Gerrard, Marion baseball
The senior pitcher allowed 1 run over the final 5 2/3 innings on 100 pitches with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks to earn MVP honors of the Class 5A state championship game in a 11-6 victory over Van Buren.
Will Childers, Conway boys soccer
The junior scored 2 goals in Conway’s 3-1 victory over Fort Smith Northside for the Class 6A state championship.
Karielle Forbes, Ashdown softball
The sophomore went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and scored 1 run in the Pantherettes’ 6-0 victory over Atkins in the Class 3A state championship.
Tianna Jones, Bentonville West girls soccer
The sophomore scored the winning goal at the 71-minute mark in the Wolverines’ 2-1 victory over Fayetteville in the Class 6A state championship.
Gavin Alveti, Harding Academy baseball
The senior allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 5 innings while striking out 9 and walking 1 and going 2-for-3 with an RBI in the Wildcats’ 4-2 victory over Ashdown in the Class 3A state championship.
Arius Garcia, Russellville boys soccer
The freshman scored 2 goals in the Cyclones 4-1 victory over Van Buren for the Class 6A state championship.
Mateo Carbonel, Farmington boys soccer
The senior had an assist and scored the game-winning gal in the 71st minute in the Cardinals’ 4-3 victory over Clarksville in the Class 4A state championship.
Logan Plumlee, Harrison baseball
The senior pitched 3 scoreless innings in relief to earn state finals MVP honors in helping Harrison beat Valley View 10-9 for the Class 4A state championship.
Riley Smith, Valley View softball
The sophomore was named MVP of the state finals by retiring 19 of the final 20 batters she faced. She allowed 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 3 in helping the Lady Blazers beat Nashville 2-1 for the Class 4A state championship.
Megan Johnston, Pulaski Academy girls soccer
The freshman scored the Lady Bruins’ first goal in a 2-0 victory over Valley View for the Class 4A state championship.
Kyle Ferrie, Harding Academy boys soccer
The junior, who is a a standout placekicker, scored the Wildcats’ final goal in a 2-0 victory over LISA Academy West in the Class 3A state championship and was named MVP of the state finals.
Rayne Cranford, Taylor baseball
The senior went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI and scored 3 runs and was named MVP of the state finals in a 10-4 victory over Nemo Vista for the Class 1A state championship.
Calle Citty, Harding Academy girls soccer
The junior midfielder was named MVP of the Class 3A state championship helping lead a defensive effort that shut out Episcopal Collegiate for the final 67 minutes in a 3-1 victory.
Ayla Buford, Taylor softball
The freshman struck out 8 and walked 3 while allowing 1 run on 5 hits and was named MVP of the state finals in a 9-1 victory over West Side Greers Ferry for the Class 1A state championship. The victory was Taylor’s fifth consecutive.
Shelby Webb, Searcy girls soccer
The senior was named MVP of the Class 5A state championship while recording several saves in the Lady Lions 1-0 victory over Siloam Springs.
Kessiah Bemis, Fayetteville girls track
The senior won the heptathlon with 4,477 points, running the 800 in 2:25.80 to overtake Springdale Har-Ber’s Kinleigh Hall for the title.
Adrian Carranco, Beebe boys track
The senior won the decathlon with 6,188 points, beating Cabot’s Quinn Hawkins boys 50 points.
Cale Edmonds, Woodlawn baseball
The senior, who had not pitched since the third game of the regular season because of Tommy John surgery on his non-throwing arm, was named MVP of the state finals after allowing 2 runs on 7 hits in 7 inning with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk while throwing 111 pitches in a 7-2 victory over Bigelow for the Class 2A state title.
Makaylie Gist, Tuckerman softball
The sophomore allowed 2 runs on 4 hit sin 6 1/3 innings with 5 strikeouts and 4 walks while being named MVP of the Class 2A state finals in a 6-2 victory over East Poinsett County.
Austin Rainey, Conway baseball
The senior did not allow a run in two stints totaling 5 2/3 innings in the Wampus Cats’ 10-7 victory over Bentonville in the Class 6A state championship while earning state finals MVP honors. He started the first two innings and didn’t allow a run before moving to center field. He came back in the third inning after Bentonville closed to 9-6 and did not allow a run the rest of the game, retiring 10 of the final 14 batters he faced.
Ryann Sanders, Bentonville softball
The sophomore struck out 14 batters while allowing 1 run on 2 hits in a 2-1 victory over Cabot in the Class 6A state championship.
Will Thompson, Conway baseball
The sophomore went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI and hit a 3-run home run in the first inning the Wampus Cats’ 10-7 victory over Bentonville in the Class 6A state championship.
Mackenzie Soden, Tuckerman softball
The junior pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the 7th inning to preserve Tuckerman’s 6-2 victory over East Poinsett County in the Class 2A state championship.
Cylan Madden, Harrison baseball
The senior delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly to score Sloan Barrett in the 10th inning in the Goblins’ 10-9 victory over Valley View in the Class 4A state championship.
