AAA announces football finals schedule; Class 2A game on Friday afternoon this year

LITTLE ROCK – Fort the first time, the Arkansas Activities Association will host a football state championship football game on a Friday afternoon.

On Wednesday morning during its annual summer workshop, the AAA board of directors approved the 2022 football and volleyball finals schedules and revealed the Class 2A football title game is scheduled for noon on Friday, Dec. 2, at Little Rock’s War Memorial Stadium. According to a press release, the game was moved up because there are fewer teams competing in Class 2A. 

“In the past, there had been an additional round of postseason play in 2A,” the release said.

After the 2A game on that Friday, the 7A title game will be played at 6:30 p.m.

The 5A game is slated for noon on Saturday, Dec. 3, with the 6A game to follow at 6:30 p.m.

War Memorial Stadium will be busy with five games in three days — another unprecedented occurrence.

The title games conclude Saturday, Dec. 10, at WMS with the 4A game at noon and the 3A game at 6 p.m.

Five state championship volleyball games will be played starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Bank OZK Arena. The 2A game starts the day and the 6A game is the final matchup at 7 p.m.
