SPRINGDALE - For the first time in its 17-year history, Har-Ber is looking for a new head football coach.

In an email sent to Springdale District staff, Chris Wood announced he had stepped down as the Wildcats head football coach and has taken an administrative position with the district’s athletic department.

Wood achieved great success leading the Wildcats, guiding them to a 115-86 record in a tenure that includes a 7A state championship in 2009, runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2015, as well as two appearances in the USA Today Top 25 poll (2010, 2017). He went 154-99 in 21 seasons as a head coach.

Har-Ber finished 1-10 this season, the third straight losing season since the Wildcats finished 8-4 in 2019.

Before becoming the first coach at Har-Ber, Wood served in assistant roles at Springdale and Shiloh Christian, along with the 2000 season at Austin High (Texas) before returning to Arkansas. He was also head coach of Shiloh from 2001-03, where he won a 2A state title with the Saints during his first season, and was at Nashville for one year in 2004.
