Top 20 high school softball outfielders entering the 2023 season

As the winter sports season draws to a close, high school softball has sprung into action in several states.

Earlier this month we featured 20 top pitchers and 20 top hitters expected to be among the best in the nation in high school softball in 2023.

Now it's time to take a position-by-position look at some of the country’s top high school softball players. We started with catchers, then first basemen, followed by third basemen, shortstops and second basemen, and now up to bat are the top outfielders.

Note: Many high school softball players excel at multiple positions. Don't be alarmed to see a slick-fielding first or second baseman listed here as an outfielder, for example.

Jolie Adams, jr., Lake Central (Indiana)

Adams hit .414 as a freshman, leading Lake Central to the Class 4A state championship game before losing to Roncalli in the final. She followed that up by hitting .491 with 14 doubles and 10 stolen bases as a sophomore, and the fleet-footed outfielder has already committed to play college softball for Auburn.

Lyla Blackwell, sr., Roncalli (Indiana)

Blackwell was the table-setter for arguably the best offense in the country last season. She hit .523 and scored 53 runs while stealing 33 bases for the back-to-back state champions, earning All-State honors. After vying for her third state championship in a row this season, Blackwell will be going to Blacksburg next season to play for Virginia Tech.

Jenissa Conway, sr., Marysville (California)

A Michigan commit, Conway was one of the most statistically dominant players in the Sac Joaquin Section last season for Division 4 finalist Marysville. She hit .567 with eight home runs, 24 stolen bases and 43 runs, along with logging a perfect fielding percentage.

Caitlyn Cornwell, sr., Northeast (Maryland)

Cornwell is a singles machine, and a single is often as good as a double with her speed. She hit .532 with a .646 on-base percentage last season, stealing 39 bases in 22 games. The three-sport star (basketball, soccer) will be playing college softball next season for Maryland.

Eden Echevarria, sr., Antioch (Illinois)

Echevarria boasts speed and power in her 5-foot-3 frame, hitting over 20 home runs in two high school seasons batting at the top of Antioch's order. She competed for Puerto Rico over the summer in the TC International Challenge in Colorado and will be playing college softball for Wisconsin.

Avery Garden, jr., Allen Park (Michigan)

Garden is among many returning underclassmen who led Allen Park to the 2022 Michigan Division I state championship last season. She earned first-team All-State honors as a sophomore, and the left-handed-hitting Central Michigan commit excels in the outfield and at first base.

Jenna Giattino, sr., Donovan Catholic (New Jersey)

Giattino is a University of Delaware signee who covers tons of ground in the outfield and gives opposing pitchers fits, hitting .451 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs in 2022. The two-time team offensive MVP has helped lead Donovan Catholic to two state championships.

Gracie Goewey, sr., Bend (Oregon)

Goewey is looking for another big year at the plate with 25 career home runs, including 15 last spring to go with a .485 batting average. The rock-solid defensive outfielder, who'll be switching coasts to play college softball for Siena, also is Bend's No. 2 pitcher behind UCLA commit Addisen Fisher.

Destiny Harris, jr., Granby (Virginia)

Harris is a five-tool outfielder with equal parts speed and power. The LSU commit hit .400 for a Granby squad that advanced to the state semifinals for the first time in program history last season. She scored 35 runs and drove in 33 in 24 games as a sophomore.

Kayden Henry, sr., Dickinson (Texas)

Henry's batting average dipped below .500 for the first time in her three-year high school career last season (.444), but the electric athlete appears poised to end her prep career with a bang before heading to the Texas Longhorns. She's also a sprinter on the track team and one of the best defensive outfielders in the nation.

Sofia King, sr., Conway (Arkansas)

A four-year starter, King is a two-time All-State honoree who'll be playing college softball for Missouri State. She hit .489 with a .536 on-base percentage last season, and in her sophomore year she helped lead Conway to a 23-8 record and a state runner-up finish.

Cassidy McLellan, sr., Lakewood Ranch (Florida)

McLellan is a world-class athlete who's competed in basketball, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics and cross-country before shifting her focus to softball. Good move. The Florida commit is coming off a junior season hitting .561 with 38 RBIs, 55 runs, 12 doubles and seven triples and three home runs.

Kai Minor, soph., Orange Lutheran (California)

It takes a special player to earn first-team All-State honors as a freshman in talent-rich Southern California, and Minor fits the bill. The outstanding defensive center fielder hit .532 with seven homers while stealing 20 bases and scoring 40 runs.

Kasidi Pickering, sr., Atascocita (Texas)

Pickering stuffed the stat sheet as a junior, batting .608 with 59 hits, 52 runs scored, 49 RBIs, 28 extra-base hits, 14 home runs and 11 stolen bases. She'll be playing college softball next season for Oklahoma.

Ana Roman, soph., Hagerty (Florida)

Roman was a tough out as a freshman, hitting .406 with a .553 on-base percentage, slugging five home runs and legging out five triples. The two-sport star (basketball) is a gifted athlete whose power numbers should increase over the next few years, as her early-season grand slam suggests.

Zaedi Tagalog, sr., Canyon del Oro (Arizona)

Tagalog is coming off a junior season in which she hit .516 and stole 10 bases in 35 games. She has a career batting average of .491 in high school and will be staying in Tucson next season to play college softball for Arizona.

Ella Teubner, soph., Lebanon (Ohio)

Teubner had quite the freshman season, hitting .628 with seven home runs and 57 RBIs to earn Division I second-team All-State honors. The lefty who can play outfield and catcher has made recent visits to Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Coastal Carolina.

Taylor Troutman, jr., Henderson County (Kentucky)

Power is Troutman's forte, which she showed everybody as a freshman when she broke the school records for home runs (12) and RBIs (54). She got her average up last season, rising from .364 to .436 while slugging another 11 homers. She's already committed to play college softball for Mississippi State.

Ava Venturelli, sr., Taunton (Massachusetts)

Venturelli started for Taunton as an eighth-grader, switched to full-time club ball and then brought her power bat back to Taunton as a junior, leading the team to a state championship. The Louisville commit hit .457 last season with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs.

Tia Warsop, sr., Lake Ridge (Texas)

Warsop earned honors as SBLive All-North Texas MVP as a junior, hitting .583 with 81 hits, 66 runs, 23 RBIs, 11 extra-base hits and a .985 fielding percentage in 39 games patrolling the outfield. She's signed to play college softball for Oklahoma State next season.
