Each week, SBLive gathers the best high school performances across the country with the help of fans, readers and staff.

We've separated boys and girls because of how many great performances there are each week. Now it's your turn to choose a standout among the pack, the best of the best.

Here are the nominees for SBLive's Boys Athlete of the Week for April 24-30. Voting closes on Sunday, May 7 at 11:59 (Pacific Time) and winners are announced on Mondays.

Boys national athlete of the week nominees

Kaesel Alverez, Wilson Magnet (New York)

Alverez, a freshman, struck out 19 of the 21 batters he faced en route to a perfect game against Monroe. Wilson Magnet won 4-0.

Issam Asinga, Montverde Academy (Florida)

Asinga set a new high school national record in the 200 with a time of 19.97 at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout. The junior also won the 100 with a non-wind-legal time of 9.89.

Zach Bingham, Highland (Arizona)

Bingham took over the country’s No. 1 spot in the pole vault with a clearance of 17-3 at the Becky Matthews Last Chance Invitational.

Simeon Birnbaum, Stevens (South Dakota)

Birnbaum won the mile competition at the Drake Relays with a time of 4:02.36, the second-fastest in the county this spring behind Aaron Sahlman’s (Newbury Park, California) 4:00.30 at the Oregon Relays. Birnbaum is an Oregon signee.

Nathan Brittain, Stuart Cramer (North Carolina)

Brittain struck out 15 and didn’t surrender a hit as Stuart Cramer edged Kings Mountain, 1-0. The senior right-hander is a Campbell signee.

Connor Byrne, Ridge (New Jersey)

Byrne whirled a perfect game in a 1-0 victory over Bernard, striking out seven and throwing just 76 pitches to get his 21 outs.

Angel Cervantes, Warren (California)

Cervantes took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before allowing a one-out infield single. The sophomore UCLA commit finished off the one-hitter in a 9-0 victory over Downey, striking out 11.

Max Clark, Franklin Community (Indiana)

Clark, a Vanderbilt commit and one of the top prospects for the 2023 MLB Draft, went 3 for 4 with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored in a 7-6 win over Mooresville.

Samuel Fischer, True North (Florida)

Fischer went a perfect 5 for 5 in an 8-7 victory over Miami Springs. Fischer, a senior shortstop, is an FIU signee.

Brandon Luu, Villa Park (California)

Luu threw a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts in a 1-0 victory over El Modena. The senior left-hander is a UC Irvine signee.

Noble Meyer, Jesuit (Oregon)

Meyer, an Oregon signee, struck out 13 and surrendered just two hits in a 1-0 victory over Sunset.

Austin Milton, Sherwood (Oregon)

Another future Oregon Duck, Milton won the javelin competition at the Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays with a top throw of 209-0 — the second-best mark nationally this season.

Marcos Paz, Hebron (Texas)

Paz struck out 13 in 6 2/3 one-hit innings as Hebron edged Flower Mound, 1-0, to claim the district title.

Riyon Rankin, Brunswick (Georgia)

Rankin, a Georgia signee, became the first high schooler to clear 7-2 in the high jump this season at the Class 6A Region 2 championships.

Ryan Rushing, IMG Academy (Florida)

The Indiana-bound Rushing fanned 15 in six innings of work. IMG Academy defeated Mitchell, 8-1.

Josiyah Taylor, Ryan (Texas)

Taylor ran a non-wind-legal 10.15 to win the 100 at the Class 5A Region 1 meet. Only Issam Asinga has run a faster all-conditions time nationally this season.

Vincent Van der Wel, Chaminade (California)

Van der Wel went 5 for 5 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs in a 13-3 win over Loyola.
