Report: Former Rainier Beach standout Marjon Beauchamp to skip college to prepare for 2021 NBA Draft

Marjon Beauchamp, once considered the top recruit out of the state of Washington from the class of 2020, announced Tuesday that he will opt to enter a yearlong training program in preparation for the 2021 NBA Draft, rebuffing offers from several high-major Division I college basketball programs.

The decision was first reported by Evan Daniels of 247 Sports.

After Beauchamp finishes his final year of high school, he will join Chemeleon BX, a 12-month training program aimed to prepare high level high school basketball players for the NBA. 

Beauchamp, a 6-foot-6, 175-pound wing, was on state championship teams at Nathan Hale and Garfield before transferring to Rainier Beach for his junior season.

"I'm genuinely humbled by all the interest and offers I received by some great schools,” Beauchamp was quoted saying in a press release. “Although they were tough to turn down, I believe the Chameleon BX program provides the kind of personalized attention I need to get my body and game properly prepared for pursuing my dream of a career in the NBA.”

Beauchamp announced in mid-July his intent to transfer to Dream City Christian in Arizona for his senior high school season. He sports offers from Washington, Arizona, UCLA, USC, Georgetown and Texas among others.

247 Sports ranks Beauchamp the 24th prospect in the class of 2020.

The program, which is based in San Francisco, projects to be an alternative to the widely popular avenues high-level pro prospects prepare: college basketball, the NBA G-League or professional basketball outside of the United States.
