Week 5 LA City Section boys basketball rankings: Washington Prep cracks top 3
Every Tuesday, Scorebook Live California’s Connor Morrissette will release his LA City Section boys basketball rankings. His Week 5 list is below.
1. Fairfax (11-2)
Fairfax lost to St. John Bosco and Ribet Academy at the Classic At Damien. Their best wins on the year are over Northern California’s Dublin and Westchester.
2. Birmingham (9-4)
The Patriots went 1-3 in the Classic At Damien after beating Long Beach Poly in their opener.
3. Washington Prep (9-9)
Washington Prep was one of the surprises of the Classic At Damien. They advanced all the way to the Gold Division championship where they fell to Santa Clarita Christian 75-52.

4. Westchester (7-4)
Westchester's best win is Santa Monica. They've played a tough schedule and will be battle tested come playoff time.
5. Gardena (11-3)
Gardena's best wins are over Long Beach Poly and St. Francis, but they fell to Santa Monica.
6. King/Drew (10-3)
King/Drew dropped two games at the Classic At Damien. They have time to regroup before playing no. 3 Washington Prep in January to begin Coliseum League play.
7. Palisades (7-6)
The Dolphins are exceeding expectations with recent wins over Taft and Providence.
8. Taft (9-3)
Taft has a good record but dropped a key City game to Palisades last week.
9. El Camino Real (7-7)
ECR beat a banged up Windward team earlier this month, but they're still waiting for things to click.
10. University (9-3)
University has won nine in a row after staring the year 0-3.
