Look: Buzzer-beater in eighth overtime ends Maine high school basketball thriller

Fryeburg clawed back down 10 in the fourth and Greely needed a buzzer-beating 3 to escape the fifth OT

A back-and-forth Maine high school basketball game was sent to a sixth overtime by a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

It took two more extra periods to decide a winner.

Greely High School (Cumberland Center, Maine) sophomore forward Kade Ippolito's layup with 0.6 seconds left was the deciding bucket, lifting the Rangers to a 117-115 win over Fryeburg Academy in the eighth overtime Tuesday night.

Greely (7-7) was in the driver's seat to close out the win in regulation, until Fryeburg (9-6) cut away a 10-point deficit in the final two minutes and tied it up at 61-61.

A combined 110 points were scored after regulation.

Greely's Tyler Pettingill scored a game-high 39 points, including a buzzer-beater 3 to send the game to a sixth overtime — one of his nine 3-pointers on the night. Pettingill fouled out in the eighth overtime.

Ippolito received a bounce pass from point guard Manny Mendoza and dropped layup off the glass over two defenders with 0.6 seconds left.
