Torrey Pines Holiday Classic Day 4 recap

Torrey Pines hosted eight games on Monday in the final day of the Holiday Classic.

National Division Game:

Torrey Pines defeated Bishop O’Dowd, 66-62.

The host Falcons trailed 35-23 at halftime but worked their
way back into the game cutting the deficit to four points at the start of the 4th

Stanford-signee Brandon Angel led all scorers with 27
points, scoring 13 of those in the 4th quarter for Torrey Pines.

“We just built momentum throughout the third quarter,” Angel
Said. “It started with great team defense and then the ball started moving
really well and we were getting high quality shots.”

Junior wing Marsalis Roberson led Bishop O’Dowd with 14
points. Freshman post Jalen Lewis had 13 points.

American Division game:

Houston Memorial defeated Clovis North, 79-77. The Mustangs
were led by Air Force-signee Ethan Taylor’s 29 points.

National Division 5th place game:

St. Augustine defeated Riverside Poly, 75-59.

The Saints used a 13-0 run at the start of the 4th
quarter to extend their lead and finish the tournament with a 3-1 record.

Cal Football-signee Tyson McWilliams hit five three-pointers
and led all scorers with 29 points. Texas Tech-signee Chibuzo Agbo had 19
points for the Saints.

American Division 3rd place game:

Poway defeated Santa Margarita, 60-51.

Poway started slowly and found themselves trailing 9-0 to
start the game. The Titans quickly recovered and finished the quarter on a 19-2

Senior point guard Adam Sevier led all scorers with 18
points. Junior center Cole Stephens had 16 points for Poway.

American Division Championship:

Bellarmine College Prep defeated St. Joseph Notre Dame,

Bellarmine dominated throughout, holding a 22-point lead
heading into the 4th quarter. The Bells were led by Quinn Denker,
who had 15 points and was named the American Division MVP.


National Division 3rd place game:

Desert Vista defeated Westchester in 2OT, 70-68.

Westchester trailed by 12 points heading into the 4th
quarter, but a TJ Wainwright 3-pointer in the closing seconds tied the game up
sending it to overtime. The two teams played an even overtime session, trading
turnovers in the final seconds sending it to a second overtime.

Desert Vista did just enough to emerge with the 2-point win
in one of the best games of the tournament.

Marquette-signee Osasere Ighodaro and sophomore point guard
Dasean Lecque were both named all-tournament selections.

TJ Wainwright was named to the all-tournament team for

National Division Championship:

JSerra defeated Sheldon, 52-50.

Sheldon looked in control for much of the first half,
leading 29-16 at the break. Paxton Burzell’s layup at the third quarter buzzer
cut the Sheldon lead down to three. The teams went back and forth from that
point on with JSerra getting a big contribution from sophomore Alpha Chibambe
who became eligible to play on Monday.

Senior big man Francesco Borra’s floater with 1.1 seconds remaining was the game-winner. Following a Sheldon timeout, Xavion Brown’s heave from beyond half court was off the mark, giving JSerra a huge tournament victory.

Sheldon’s Xavion Brown and Darren Tobias were both named to
the all-tournament team.

JSerra’s Francesco Borra was named to the all-tournament
team while Utah-signee Ian Martinez was named the MVP of the National Division.

National Division Consolation Championship:

Archbishop Mitty defeated Foothills Christian, 79-58.

After an even first quarter, Mitty began to open things up
leading by 11 at halftime and by 25 after three quarters. The Monarchs
continued their hot shooting by hitting 15 3-pointers, four each by Mike
Mitchell and Mason Ryan.

Yale-signee Yassine Gharram was named to the all-tournament
team for Foothills Christian.

Pepperdine commit Mike Mitchell was named to the all-tournament team for Archbishop Mitty.
