Los Angeles Archdiocese announces Catholic schools will resume on-campus instruction this fall
The Los Angeles Archdiocese announced on Tuesday that their schools in Los Angeles County, Santa Barbara County and Ventura County will resume in-person instruction in the fall. The L.A. Archdiocese made the announcement in an email from superintend Paul M. Escala.
"The California Department of Public Health has released guidance to PK-12 public and private schools for the return to in-person instruction," the memo reads. "As a result of this guidance and recent modifications to county public health orders in Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles, the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will resume on-campus instruction in the fall."
The email goes on to mention how schools should anticipate protocols, including the following:
- Physical distancing
- Facial coverings
- Frequent hand washing
- Keeping students in class-level cohorts
- Use of outdoor spaces for instruction
- Non-touch temperature checks upon entry
What this means for sports
As we have reported in the past, individual school districts and private school heads will decide on when they will bring back athletics at schools, in accordance with public health officials.
In-person instruction is an important prerequisite for high school sports to come back. It's unlikely there would be high school sports if school districts opt for full online distance learning.
The CIF announced they will make a decision on a fall sports calendar by July 20. More information will come out on or before that date.
