Watch: Xavier Washington sparks Rancho Cucamonga to 27-19 comeback win against Apple Valley

Washington threw four touchdowns in the Cougars' victory after they trailed 13-0.

APPLE VALLEY– The Cougars trailed Apple Valley 13-0 and looked dead in the water with 6:50 to play in the first quarter of their season-opener. Then, their defense clamped down for the rest of the game, and junior QB Xavier Washington got their offense going with a series of dazzling throws on the run.

Rancho Cucamonga would go on to score the next 27 points, and held on to win 27-19. Washington threw for four touchdowns, and the Cougars got big-time performances from WRs Isaiah Lopez, Julian Lundy, and Jonah Dawson. DB Christian Pierce led an excellent defensive effort, and sealed the win with an interception late in the fourth quarter. The win got them off to a perfect start under new head coach Brian Hildebrand, who got the cooler treatment on the field as soon as the win became official.

Jayden Denegal had a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown to Logan Moon for Apple Valley. Kaleb Most also had a rushing touchdown.
