SBLive’s preseason 2022 all-state California high school baseball team: Orange Lutheran's Louis Rodriguez and Mikey Romero are two of state's best

We evaluated players in every Section of the state to compile a roster of the 20 best players in California — seven pitchers and 13 position players.

The 2022 high school baseball season is underway across California, and it figures to be another exciting spring in one of the country's deepest and most talented states for high school baseball.

We evaluated players in every Section of the state to compile a roster of the 20 best players in California — seven pitchers and 13 position players.

Here's a look at SBLive's list of preseason all-state baseball selections from across California. The preseason all-state team was compiled by SBLive reporter Bodie DeSilva.

PITCHERS

P: Myles Patton – Millikan – Senior

Myles Patton Millikan

Patton went 6-3 with an ERA of 1.17 as a junior, finishing with 97 strikeouts in only 71.2 innings pitched. The Long Beach State-signee helped the Rams capture the Southern Section Division 3 Championship and make a run into the Southern California Division 2 Championship game.

P: Jaden Noot – Sierra Canyon – Senior

Noot is one of the state's best two-way players. The LSU-signee has a fastball that reaches the mid-90's and crushes the ball as a hitter with his six-foot-four, 235-pound frame.

P: Louis Rodriguez – Orange Lutheran – Senior

Louis Rodriguez

Rodriguez showcases a variety of pitches that makes him nearly impossible to make solid contact against. The TCU-signee struck out ten batters during an outing with Team USA's U-18 team this past summer.

P: Sam Tookoian – Buchanan – Senior

Tookoian helped lead the Bears to a 29-3 record last season while winning their seventh Central Section Championship. He struck out eight batters in only four innings last week during his senior season debut. Tookoian has signed with Ole Miss.

P: Carson Turnquist – Paso Robles – Senior

Turnquist's junior season numbers made him a candidate for this list as a pitcher or third baseman. On the mound he went 6-1 with a 1.40 ERA and struck out 68 batters in 40 innings. As a batter he hit .400 with seven home runs and was among the state leaders with 45 runs batted in. He has signed with Oklahoma.

P: Luke Mistone – Bonita – Senior

Mistone struck out 98 batters last season, finishing the year 8-2 with an ERA of 1.54. The Cal State Fullerton-signee is off to a hot start as a senior with nine strikeouts in his first game and has also hit two home runs.

P: Jake Thrift – Moorpark – Senior

Thrift enters his fourth varsity season with a career ERA of 1.81. He struck out 94 batters last season in only 56 innings pitched. He's committed to USC.

CATCHERS

C: Malcolm Moore – McClatchy – Senior

Moore was named the Gatorade California Player of the Year following his junior season in which he hit .535 with 14 doubles, seven triples, and seven home runs. Moore has signed with Stanford.

C: Dylan Jackson – Thousand Oaks – Senior

Jackson was part of a Thousand Oaks team last season that hit 42 home runs. He did his part, finishing with a .333 average, nine home runs, and seven doubles.

INFIELDERS

INF: Cutter Coffey – Liberty (Bakersfield) – Senior

Coffey has a career average of .406 as he begins his senior season. He hit .479 with nine home runs and five doubles last season and has also served as a key reliever for the Patriots. He's signed with Texas.

INF: Ryan Rivera – San Marcos – Senior

Ryan Rivera San Marcos

Rivera had a breakout season as a junior, batting .473 with 12 home runs and 12 doubles to help the Knights grab the top seed in San Diego's Open Division playoffs.

INF: Mikey Romero – Orange Lutheran – Senior

Romero is a big time hitter and defender at shortstop for the Lancers. He played in this past summer's Perfect Game All American Classic at Petco Park and has signed with LSU.

INF: Lucas Kelly – Sacred Heart Prep – Senior

Kelly hit .432 as a junior for the Fightin' Irish, finishing with nine doubles, eight home runs, and 31 runs batter in. He's signed with Texas A&M.

INF: Jacob Reimer – Yucaipa – Senior

Reimer hit .440 with 12 doubles and seven home runs as a junior and has the Thunderbirds among the state's top teams to start his final season. He's signed with Washington.

INF: Gavin Grahovac – Villa Park – Junior

Grahovac hit .411 last season with ten doubles and six home runs. He also stole nine bases for the Spartans.  He's committed to Texas A&M.

INF: Hudson Barrett – Frontier (Bakersfield) – Senior

Barrett was among the state's best two-way players last season. He hit .535 with seven doubles and six home runs and also struck 70 batters in only 39 innings on the mound. He's signed with UC-Santa Barbara.

OUTFIELDERS

OF: Payton Brennan – Rocklin – Senior

Brennan had an on-base percentage of .485 as a junior to go along with seven doubles, two triples, and three home runs. He also stole 11 bases and has signed with UCLA.

OF: Toussaint Bythewood – Harvard-Westlake – Senior

Bythewood was named MVP of the Mission League as a junior after hitting .429 with four triples and 11 stolen bases. He's signed with UCLA.

OF: Henry Bolte – Palo Alto – Senior

Bolte had an on-base percentage of .415 as a junior and sprayed the ball around, finishing with five doubles, six triples, and three home runs. Bolte has signed with Texas.

OF: Troy McCain – Corona – Senior

McCain his .425 with 11 doubles and seven home runs during his junior season. McCain has transferred over to Corona for his final season and has signed with Cal Poly.
