Corona Centennial junior guard Jared McCain commits to Duke Blue Devils basketball

McCain helped lead Corona Centennial to Section and State titles this season.

Fresh off of a state championship, Corona Centennial junior guard Jared McCain announced his commitment to Duke on Friday. McCain broke the news on his Instagram. He picked Duke over Gonzaga and UCLA.

McCain has led his Corona Centennial team to two straight Southern Section Open Division championships in the last two seasons. Earlier this month, he scored 16 points in the Huskies' 59-50 Open Division state championship win over Modesto Christian to give Corona Centennial its first state crown in school history.

On the basketball court, McCain is known for his pure 3-point shooting stroke and defensive intensity, but he's also developed a following off of it. The junior has over 1 million followers on the social media app TikTok

McCain is frequently mobbed by fans after games asking for pictures and autographs.

"It's crazy," he said after scoring a game high 20 points in Corona Centennial's 68-48 Southern Section Open Division championship win over Harvard-Westlake on Feb. 25. "I'm still not even used it really. It's amazing. I love the support."

In Corona Centennial's 83-59 regional championship win over Sierra Canyon on March 8, McCain scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. His ability to help the Huskies win in other ways than just scoring has led Corona Centennial head coach Josh Giles to call his team a "coach's dream" on multiple occasions this season.
