Highlights and photos: Sam Garewal's 12 strikeouts push Canyon Crest to 1-0 win over La Costa Canyon
CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Canyon Crest left-handed pitcher Sam Garewal has been borderline unhittable through the first month of the baseball season. That didn't change on Thursday afternoon.
The Northwestern-signee struck out 12 and allowed only one hit across his seven innings of work as the visiting Ravens needed extra innings to take down La Costa Canyon, 1-0. The first six innings of the game raced by as Garewal and La Costa Canyon starter Carson Tanner combined to allow only three hits in their 14 innings of work.

Canyon Crest opened the top of the ninth inning with a double and walk. After a bunt and a pop out, junior Oliver Charat-Collins stepped up to the plate and laced the 2-1 offering over the shortstop's head and into left field, driving in the only run of the game.
Senior Neil Elias, working in relief of Garewal, allowed a one-out walk in the bottom of the ninth inning but was able to get the final two outs to secure the Ravens' seventh win of the season.
