Top 10 first basemen in Southern Section high school baseball

From Notre Dame's Jack Gurevitch to Huntington Beach's Ralphy Velazquez, the Southern Section is stocked with first baseman talent.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a look at some of the top baseball players in the CIF Southern Section. We started behind the plate, and now we're moving over to first base.

TOP 10 FIRST BASEMAN IN SOUTHERN SECTION HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

(The list is in alphabetical order)

Sam Grunberg - Calabasas - Senior

Grunberg is a Chapman signee. He's hit six home runs so far this season for the 16-5 Coyotes.

Jack Gurevitch - Sherman Oaks Notre Dame - Senior

Gurevitch leads Notre Dame with a .395 batting average. The senior is a University of San Diego signee.

Charlie Mannon - Corona Del Mar - Senior

In addition to starring on the diamond, Mannon also played football at CDM lining up wherever his team needed him last fall (Mannon played linebacker, defensive end, running back and tight end for the Sea Kings). The senior is a UC Santa Barbara signee. He hit a grand slam in a loss to Newport Harbor earlier this season.

Gabe Miranda - Orange Lutheran - Senior

Miranda is a TCU signee. In a 12-1 win over Yucaipa earlier this year, Miranda went 4-for-4 with four RBI's.

Sammy Petrocelli - Sherman Oaks Notre Dame - Sophomore

Petrocelli also excels on the mound in addition to playing first base. The sophomore is committed to Stanford. He's a player to watch out for in the future.

Jonathan Rodriguez - Servite - Junior

Rodriguez has hit two dingers for the Friars so far this season. He's committed to Long Beach State.

Ethan Schiefelbein - Corona - Sophomore

Schiefelbein is a UCLA commit. He's a big time college prospect who pitches at a high level in addition to possessing serious power at the plate. Schiefelbein hit a two run home run against Norco earlier this year and this past week, he struck out 13 in a 3-1 win over King. His 2.27 ERA leads the Panthers.

Jarrett Segura - Alemany - Junior

Segura had three hits in a 6-5 Alemany win over Crespi earlier this season. In Alemany's 4-3 win over Gahr, Segura hit a home run and finished the game with two RBI's.

Ralphy Velazquez - Huntington Beach - Junior

Velazquez may be the top prospect on this list. The Arizona State commit is one of the best hitters in the country. He hit a home run in the Oilers' 10-2 win over Fountain Valley earlier this week. With Velazquez leading the charge, Huntington Beach is 8-0 in the Sunset Surf League.

Noah Wahl - Palos Verdes - Senior

Wahl leads Palos Verdes with two home runs this season. He hit both homers in a 10-1 Palos Verdes win over South Torrance back in February. Wahl finished the game with three RBI's.
