Grant Gray, Norco two-sport standout, commits to UCLA Bruins

UCLA Bruins football coach Chip Kelly is on the board in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

And UCLA baseball coach John Savage secured a key piece as well.

That good news came from one prospect, however, as Norco High School (California) wide receiver and second baseman/centerfielder Grant Gray announced his commitment to UCLA over offers from Arizona, Boise State, Colorado, Fresno State, Rice, San Diego State and UNLV:

"It's amazing being able to stay home," he said. "I have a lot of family and friends that will come and support me. It's a great feeling." 

Gray visited UCLA last week with his parents, checking out a UCLA football practice.

Following that visit, he was nearly set on a commitment, but waited until Sunday morning to make the call to the football staff.

By the time that celebration was over, there was no need to notify the baseball program.

"We called them this morning," Gray said. "I called football and told them, and before I ended got on the phone with baseball they texted me to congratulate me." 

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound pass-catcher is rated the nation's No. 51 wide receiver and the No. 41 football prospect in the state of California. 

Last season on the gridiron, Gray hauled in 61 receptions for 956 yards and 10 touchdowns.

On the diamond, he tallied a .378 batting average with 31 runs scored, 10 RBI, five doubles, two triples and a home run. He also went 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.

Gray's commitment to UCLA means Arizona State is the lone football program in the Pac-12 Conference without a pledge in the 2023 recruiting cycle.
