SBLive’s Southern Section Baseball Top 25: Villa Park new No. 1 team in latest CIF-SS rankings

The Spartans won the Boras Classic South Tournament championship last Friday.

SBLIVE SOUTHERN SECTION TOP 25 BASEBALL RANKINGS

1. Villa Park (24-2)

Last week: 8

Villa Park won the Boras Classic South Tournament championship last week. The Spartans beat No. 8 Servite, No. 6 Huntington Beach, No. 5 Notre Dame and No. 2 JSerra in the title game. The Spartans showed that they're a true Division 1 title contender. 

2. JSerra (15-10)

Last week: 4

JSerra took down No. 3 Orange Lutheran 4-1 in the Boras Classic semifinals behind a stellar outing from junior pitcher JJ Hollis. The Lions fell in the title game 11-3 to No. 1 Villa Park. 

3. Orange Lutheran (21-4)

Last week: 1

Orange Lutheran has an exceptional one-two punch of starting pitchers with Oliver Santos and Louis Rodriguez. When those two start a game, the Lancers can beat anyone. 

4. Harvard-Westlake (18-6-1)

Last week: 5

The Wolverines can win the Mission League title outright if they sweep Chaminade this week. 

5. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) (19-7-1)

Last week: 6

The Knights fell to No. 1 Villa Park and No. 3 Orange Lutheran in last week's Boras Classic. Notre Dame beat No. 13 Corona and Point Loma. 

6. Huntington Beach (18-8)

Last week: 10

Huntington Beach went 3-1 at the Boras Classic. The Oilers lone loss came against No. 1 Villa Park in the second round. 

7. Foothill (17-9)

Last week: 15

Foothill had a strong showing at the Boras Classic beating No. 18 San Dimas, No. 14 Sierra Canyon and No. 8 Servite. 

8. Servite (14-10)

Last week: 7

A week after Servite swept Mater Dei, the Friars went 2-2 in the Boras Classic beating No. 15 Yucaipa and No. 13 Corona and losing to No. 1 Villa Park and No. 7 Foothill. 

9. Arlington (25-1)

Last week: 9

Arlington has won 25 games in a row. The Lions are a sure fire Division 2 title contender in the Southern Section.

10. Cypress (20-4-1)

Last week: 11

After winning nine games in a row, Cypress lost 2-1 to No. 22 Pacifica last week two days after winning game one of their series 4-3. 

11. Santa Margarita (18-7)

Last week: 12

Santa Margarita took two of three from No. 20 St. John Bosco last week. 

12. Norco (21-4)

Last week: 13

Norco swept No. 13 Corona in three games three weeks ago. Last week, the Cougars won their lone game 6-0 over Sonora. 

13. Corona (16-9)

Last week: 14

Corona went 2-2 in the Boras Classic beating Mater Dei and No. 14 Sierra Canyon and losing to No. 5 Notre Dame and No. 8 Servite. 

14. Sierra Canyon (23-3)

Last week: 2

The Trailblazers went into the Boras Classic undefeated, but exited with three losses. Sierra Canyon has two great starting arms in Jaden Noot and Kassius Thomas. Noot pitched the Trailblazers to their lone Boras win, a 3-0 victory over King. Thomas did not pitch last week. 

15. Yucaipa (17-8)

Last week: 3

Yucaipa had a tough week going 1-3 in the Boras Classic and losing 5-2 to Beaumont on Saturday. The Thunderbirds have a lot of talent and can beat anyone when fully healthy. Yucaipa walked off to beat No. 4 Harvard-Westlake 6-5 on Feb. 15. 

16. Hart (18-8)

Last week: 17

The Indians have beaten No. 5 Notre Dame this season and are 10-0 in the Foothill League.

17. Northview (18-4)

Last week: 18

The Vikings have won 14 of their last 15 games in addition to beating No. 18 San Dimas twice this season.

18. San Dimas (17-6)

Last week: 19

San Dimas went 2-2 in the Boras Classic last week beating King and Mater Dei and falling to No. 2 JSerra and No. 7 Foothill. 

19. South Hills (21-5)

Last week: 20

South Hills took down Mission Viejo 12-7 on Saturday. The Huskies have won six games in a row. 

20. St. John Bosco (15-10)

Last week: 21

St. John Bosco lost on a walk-off against No. 11 Santa Margarita in the rubber match of their Trinity League series on Friday. 

21. Calabasas (19-6)

Last week: 22

The Coyotes are in first place in the Marmonte League. They've won three of their last four. 

22. Pacifica (Garden Grove) (17-8)

Last week: 23

Pacifica split its two game series with No. 10 Cypress last week. 

23. La Mirada (18-6-1)

Last week: NR

The Matadors had a good showing in the Boras Classic beating No. 14 Sierra Canyon and Point Loma. 

24. Trabuco Hills (21-5)

Last week: NR

Trabuco Hills has won six games in a row to make this week's Top 25. 

25. Bishop Amat (19-6)

Last week: NR

The Lancers have also won six straight.
