Is that Shohei Ohtani? Sierra Canyon's Jaden Noot pitches and hits Trailblazers to 6-1 playoff win over Simi Valley

CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- Sierra Canyon pitcher Jaden Noot looked like the high school version of Shohei Ohtani on Thursday afternoon. On the same day Ohtani earned a win and had two hits in an 8-0 Anaheim Angels victory over the Boston Red Sox, Noot recorded a win and had a multi hit game of his own in Sierra Canyon's 6-1 Division 2 Southern Section playoff victory over Simi Valley.

"I knew I was going to have to put in a little work because I've been struggling the last few games," Noot said. "I was just trying to do what I can to help us."

Noot, an LSU commit, threw five and 2/3 innings striking out six in the victory. He also went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs. 

"That was pretty [darn] good," Sierra Canyon head coach Jerry Royster said. "He dominated...He was on the bases so much we even ran for him once."

The only trouble Noot ran into on the hill came in the fifth inning, when he gave up a run and then exited with two outs and the bases loaded. Max Martin came in to relieve Noot and forced a line out from Simi Valley's Nico Ficele to get out of the jam.

"It's hard to do both things," Royster said of Noot pitching and hitting. "That's why what Ohtani's doing is amazing. All high school pitchers do it, they're mostly all two way players, and they're going to run into problems like that. Not many of them are throwing 96 though."

Sierra Canyon's Eddie Mgdesyan hit an RBI triple in the fifth inning and then scored on a Simi Valley throwing error. Martin pitched one and 1/3 innings to clinch the victory. 

Sierra Canyon will take on Garden Grove Pacifica in round two of the playoffs on Tuesday.
