SBLive-HIU SoCal Senior All-Star Game: Meet the players & coaches on the away team

Last Saturday, we officially announced the first ever SBLive SoCal Senior All-Star Game, Hosted by Hope International University, set for 6 p.m. at HIU on Saturday, May 7. And earlier today we introduced the rosters for the home team.

Now it's time to release the finalized roster for the away team. The road team is led by two of the brightest coaches in the Southern Section, and features a plethora of star seniors ranging from D-1 commits to uncommitted college-caliber players. 

All stats and awards referenced pertain to the 2021-22 season unless noted otherwise. Coaches and players are listed in alphabetical order.

COACHES: 

Sara Brown – Fairmont Prep

After spending four years at Edison (Huntington Beach), Brown took over at FPA in 2019 and inherited a traditionally strong program coming off a couple of down years. She immediately led an unheralded squad lacking senior experience to a 25-8 campaign, tie for first in the San Joaquin League, Southern Section 2-AA finals appearance, and Division I State playoff birth. With what proved to be one of the top 2021 cores in the state and a couple of key at-the-time juniors whom we will introduce shortly, the Huskies followed up their eye-opening 2019-20 season by going 17-8, again winning a co-San Joaquin League title, and making the CIFSS Division 1 semifinals. Brown again led an overlooked Huskies team with little continuity or returning production to a strong season this past year, as they knocked off reigning Division 2-AA champion Alemany and then Mira Costa to make the Division 1 quarterfinals. She now has a 60-29 record at Fairmont Prep.

Stan Delus – Etiwanda

While he was already known widely as one of the top high school coaches in California, Delus got his long-overdue flowers this season after steering a young Eagles squad to their first ever Open Division section title. Etiwanda faced significant adversity and still went undefeated all the way until the State Open Division semifinals, finishing the season 29-1 as the second-ranked team in California, a top-five team in the country, and of course, the new CIFSS Open Division champion. In just five seasons as the Eagles' head coach, despite playing one of the toughest schedules in the country year in and year out, Delus is already more than 100 games above .500. He has an overall record of 125-24 with E-High, good for a winning percentage of nearly 84%. Delus is also less than a year removed from winning a Nike EYBL national championship as an assistant coach with Cal Stars.

PLAYERS:

G Kate Bobadilla – Twentynine Palms – 5-5

-An explosive scorer and shooter since her first days of high school ball. Averaged close to 20 points and three assists per game for her high school career, and is also a menacing ball thief with a career average of over three SPG. Committed to Point Loma Nazarene and named to SBLive's First Team All-Inland Empire.

C Erica Collins – Chino Hills – 6-3

-The only true center on either roster, and one of the best in the state while still getting continually better. Tall, fluid, and very strong and physical. Good feel for the game and unselfish. Skilled shot-maker not only from the post but from the perimeter as well. Averaged 15.2 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, 2.6 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. Named First Team All-Inland Empire by IE Varsity/Press-Enterprise and SBLive. 

SF/PF Layla Curry – Corona Centennial – 5-9

-The gold standard of motor, toughness, and sheer defensive ability at the high school level combined with tremendous athleticism. As a junior was the leading rebounder and shot-blocker on 25-1 CIF Southern Region Open Division champion team that finished the postseason No. 1 in California. Averaged career-highs of 9.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game as a senior in addition to two APG and 0.9 BPG to help keep Centennial well inside the top 10 teams in the state. Named Second Team All-Area by IE Varsity/Press-Enterprise and First Team All-Inland Empire by SBLive.

PF/C Eliana Hall – Peninsula – 6-0

-A highly consistent paint anchor with the size and mobility to guard anywhere in the frontcourt. Leading shot-blocker in Panthers history. Averaged 11.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game as a senior. Has shown major flashes of perimeter scoring potential on offense. Selected as MVP of the Bay League in 2021 and First Team All-League in 2021-22. SBLive All-Los Angeles County honoree.

G Serena Ileleji – Anaheim – 5-6

-Slashing combo guard with a strong frame, good footwork/balance, and a legit jumper. After averaging 14.8 PPG as a freshman, averaged nearly 18 PPG as both a sophomore and a senior, and led the Colonists to a 72-18 record in her time at Anaheim. Might be the most underrated player in Orange County. Named All-County by OC Register and SBLive.

PG Andrea Javier – Fairmont Prep – 5-6

-One of the most gifted passers in SoCal who proved to be a major shooting/scoring threat as a senior. Was the sixth man on Fairmont's 2021 CIFSS D1 semifinals team and played a starring role as a senior upon developing an oftentimes lethal jumper. Plus defender who controls the tempo, and a soon-to-be HIU Royal. Named Third Team All-County by OC Register and Second Team by SBLive.

PG/SG Alyssa Kubo – Esperanza – 5-7

-Sharpshooting combo guard with a major clutch gene. After breaking out to average 13.7 PPG as a sophomore, made waves as a junior for leading the Aztecs to an underdog run to the Southern Section Division 1 finals averaging 16.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.2 steals per game on 51% EFG. Hit 252 threes at over a 35% clip for her high school career. Was HIU's first 2022 commit. Averaged 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and career-highs of 3.2 assists, 3.1 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game as a senior and was named Second Team All-OC by both the OC Register and SBLive.

SG Maile Oshita – Fairmont Prep – 5-4

-Three-point assassin who doesn't need much time or space to get off a solid look from deep. Can come off screens and hit 'em in bunches when she's on, or attack a closeout and find an open teammate. Scrappy defender who consistently makes high-basketball IQ plays. Played her way onto end-of-season state watchlist.

PG Angelina Robles – Bishop's – 5-4

-Leading scorer in the San Diego Section (28.6 PPG) and of the most dominant scorers in the state. Shot 49% FG (54% EFG) and added six rebounds, 3.4 steals, and 2.6 assists per game to lead the Knights to the CIF Division II State quarterfinals. Lethal shooter with the ability to create her own shot off the dribble, hitting 54 threes at over 42%. Named to SBLive's First Team All-San Diego Section and All-SoCal team.

SG/SF Maddie Salud – Fairmont Prep – 5-7

-Prototypical "3-and-D plus" wing, who not only drains spot-up threes and guards at a high level but also sets the tone with toughness and physicality. Can also attack off the dribble, shoot the mid-range pull-up jumper particularly well, and find open teammates. Was a starter and important role player on the Huskies' 2021 CIFSS Division 1 semifinals team, and emerged as a leader and star to help lead them back to the D1 quarterfinals this past season. HIU-bound and an SBLive All-Orange County honoree.

PG Myla Scott – Pacifica (Oxnard) – 5-6

-Pure point guard who cemented herself as one of the top passers in the Southern Section with a big senior year. Averaged 13.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game to lead one of the stronger Tritons squads in years. Made her second straight VC Star First Team All-County as a senior, and was also named to SBLive's First Team All-Ventura County.

PG/SG Halle Sii – Capistrano Valley Christian – 5-7

-Point guard with a complete scoring package at over 20 PPG who can slide to the two without missing a beat. Strong outside shooter and also a plus athlete with a strong frame who finishes through contact at a high level. Good rebounder from the guard position. Unselfish creator who punishes double-teams by quickly hitting the open man. Led the Eagles to their first ever CIF title with a dominant Southern Section 5-AA run. Named Second Team All-Orange County by SBLive and OC Register.

SF Lani White – Mater Dei – 5-11

-Both a 15 PPG scorer on a top-four team in the Southern Section and quite arguably the best defensive wing in California. Guarded every position, and her ability to both contest shots inside and trap in space as a small-ball five unleashed one of SoCal's top presses. Proved to be one of the most clutch players around on offense as a member of Mater Dei's back-to-back Open Division section title run. Hit the legendary buzzer-beating three that sank Corona Centennial in the 2021 CIFSS Open Division finals. Long and strong with quick feet, active hands, a great motor, and a deadly three-ball. Continually improving as an interior scoring threat as well. Signed with Utah. Named First Team All-Orange County by both OC Register and SBLive, and is SBLive's OC Defensive Player of the Year as well.
