Watch: Patrick Henry sophomores Jack Giordano and Talin Gardini discuss walk-off win over Christian to capture Eastern League championship

Giordano's single into the left field corner won the game for the Patriots in the bottom of the eighth inning.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- It took extra innings for the dust to settle on Friday afternoon, but when it did the Patrick Henry Patriots emerged victorious, collecting a 3-2 walk-off win over Christian to capture their second consecutive Eastern League title.

Christian second baseman Shane Bailey started the scoring with a second inning two-run double. Patrick Henry responded in the bottom of the inning when Nolan Kluge's infield single was unable to be fielded cleanly, scoring Ryan Ellis from third.

Patrick Henry starting pitcher Dylan Dyersen settled in on the mound after a rough second inning and allowed only one hit from Christian over his final six innings of work.

After Christian stranded Hunter Kaul on first base following his eighth inning single, Talin Gardini led off the bottom of the inning with a triple into the right field corner. In stepped sophomore catcher Jack Giordano who attacked the first pitch, sending it deep into the left field corner and out of reach for the Christian outfielders who were playing tight with no outs. Gardini waited for the ball to drop before sprinting home as Giordano pumped his first in the air as he rounded first base and trotted towards the outfield to celebrate with his teammates.

Both teams will continue their seasons in the San Diego Section Division 2 playoffs and will learn their seedings on Saturday morning.
