Etiwanda slashes 11 hits in 6-1 Division 2 Southern Section baseball championship win over Torrance

On the mound, Dylan Goff threw a complete game for the Eagles striking out nine.

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Etiwanda's offense exploded for 11 hits and six runs to win the Division 2 Southern Section baseball championship 6-1 over Torrance on Saturday night.

The first two innings were scoreless, but in the bottom of the third inning, the first five Etiwanda batters all reached base safely against Torrance starter Aidan Irvine giving the Eagles a 3-0 cushion. Parker Sobiesiak and Austen Roellig started the inning with back to back doubles. The next batter, Armando Briseno, hit an RBI triple. Brady Ebel then came to the plate and popped up a ball to shallow left field that the Torrance left fielder, third baseman and shortstop all over run. The ball fell in fair territory, which brought home Briseno. After a Michai Harrison single, Irvine was replaced by Brock Mayer who got out of the inning.

Torrance got on the board in the top of the fifth when Evan Saito singled to right field and the ball got by Etiwanda's right fielder rolling all the way to bullpen. The Eagles made a second error on the relay throw at second base which allowed Saito to score making the score 3-1.

But in the bottom of the sixth inning, two Etiwanda sacrifice flies from Sobiesiak and Roellig extended the Eagles' lead to 5-1. Two batters later, Ebel hit a single up the middle and the Torrance shortstop threw the ball away going to first base. The error brought home Tyler McEvoy making it 6-1 Etiwanda.

On the mound, Etiwanda junior Dylan Goff threw a complete game striking out nine. He gave up one unearned run and six hits.

Saturday's win gives Etiwanda the school's second ever Southern Section baseball title. The Eagles also won in 2017.
