SBLive's California Softball Top 25: No. 2 Roosevelt (Eastvale), No. 24 Mission Viejo win CIFSS Divisions 1 & 2

It's officially playoff time throughout all of California high school softball. With that said, here are SBLive's weekly California high school softball rankings for the penultimate week of the CIF softball season. Note that while the Southern Section playoffs are over, Southern Section teams are still eligible to remain in our statewide rankings whether or not they will qualify for Regionals.

1. Saint Francis of Mountain View (26-2 – 1st)

The reigning CIFCCS Open Division champs' title defense began with an 18-0 blowout of Cupertino.

2. Roosevelt of Eastvale (27-3 – 2nd)

After not scoring since the first inning, Roosevelt rallied to defeat Los Alamitos 5-4 on a walk-off in the seventh inning to win the Southern Section Division 1 title.

3. Archbishop Mitty (25-3 – 3rd)

The Monarchs blew out San Benito to start the playoffs, and next have a high-profile matchup with incumbent Open Division finalist Notre Dame (Salinas).

4. Los Alamitos (24-8 – 4th)

While it couldn't have ended much more painfully, Los Al's finals loss to Roosevelt does not hurt them in the slightest as far as our rankings go.

5. Oaks Christian (31-1 – 1st)

Oaks Christian is one of numerous Southern Section powerhouses in our top 25 that didn't play last week.

6. Livermore (24-3-1 – 6th)

The Cowboys/Cowgirls picked up a second straight shutout win to open the playoffs, this time against Casa Grande. They could be tested in the semifinals with Marin Catholic looming.

7. Murrieta Mesa (25-8 – 7th)

Mesa made the CIFSS Division 1 quarterfinals and is awaiting Regionals.

8. Granada of Livermore (25-3 – 8th)

After defeating College Park 14-8, the Matadors face EBAL foe San Ramon Valley, whom they beat 2-0 and 4-1 (in eight innings) in league play.

9. Vanden (19-0 – 9th)

While they're still the favorites, the Vikings are about to face one of their biggest tests of the season in Vista Del Lago. The winner will face the winner of Oakdale vs. Central Catholic in the CIFSJS Division 3 finals.

10. Camarillo (24-4 – 10th)

Camarillo didn't play last week after falling 10-7 against Los Alamitos in the Southern Section D1 quarterfinals.

11. Gahr (23-9 – 11th)

The Gladiators are on the second of two bye-weeks after losing 3-0 to Roosevelt in the CIFSS Division 1 semis.

12. Orange Lutheran (21-9 – 12th)

The Lancers fell to Gahr 7-3 in the CIFSS D1 quarterfinals, and didn't play last week.

13. Villa Park (24-5 – 13th)

After losing to OLu in the second round of the playoffs, VP's season is likely over.

14. Norco (20-9 – 14th)

Like the last four teams, Norco didn't play last week after a Southern Section D1 playoff loss.

15. Clovis (23-6 – 15th)

The Cougars defeated Paso Robles 2-0 to open the playoffs.

16. Buchanan (21-7 – 17th)

After blowing out Centennial (Bakersfield) to start the postseason, Buchanan faces Clovis in the Division 1 semifinals. With an injury-impacted Clovis North falling to Stockdale, which will now face the TRAC's fourth place finisher, Central, there is a good chance that whichever team wins this league rematch will win it all. The Bears won both league meetings with Clovis and have home field advantage.

17. Central Catholic (24-3-1 – 18th)

While they probably hoped for more explosive offensive showings, the Raiders started the playoffs by beating quality opponents in Pioneer (Woodland) and Merced 3-0 and 4-1, respectively. The semifinals bring a rematch with a familiar foe – Oakdale.

18. Sheldon (25-5 – 19th)

In their second-round matchup, the Huskies blew out a very solid Gregory team 10-0 in less than five innings. It was tempting to move them up slightly for having such dominant playoff-openers, but their last loss came against Central Catholic, which hasn't lost a game since then. Sheldon looks like a heavier favorite by the week to win Division 1 in the CIFSJS, but has to deal with a potential dark horse title threat next in Rocklin.

19. Sutter (28-1 – 20th)

To no one's surprise, Sutter won the Northern Section Division 4 championship in dominant fashion. Amazingly, the Huskies didn't give up a single run in three playoff games.

20. St. Francis of Sacramento (25-3 – 21st)

Speaking of league rematches in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs, the winner of Elk Grove at St. Francis on Tuesday will be the arguable favorite heading into the Division 2 finals against either Del Oro or Roseville. The Troubadors won this meeting in low-scoring games both times during VOL play, and have home field advantage.

21. Westlake (20-6 – 22nd)

Westlake got its season ended what's now been almost three weeks ago by underdog and eventual semifinalist Gahr. That's how much of a bloodbath the Division 1 playoffs are the Southern Section – an arguable top-15 team in the state got sent home in the first round.

22. Oakdale (26-2-1 – 23rd)

The good news for Oakdale heading into the CIFSJS D3 semifinals is that it gets a rubber match with league foe Central Catholic. That means a shot at avenging a 2-1 loss on May 10 that had second place in the VOL on the line. The bad news for Oakdale, however, is that both teams wins' came at home, and the Mustangs are on the road on Tuesday.

23. Heritage of Brentwood (22-3-1 – 24th)

After riding explosive offense to wins against Monte Vista and Clayton Valley Charter, Heritage hosts Vintage on Tuesday in the CIFNCS Division 1 semifinals.

24. Mission Viejo (26-5 – Unranked)

Mission Viejo returned to the top 25 after defeating Millikan 2-1 in the CIFSS Division 2 finals.

25. Millikan (22-11 – 25th)

Since Mission Viejo was already a borderline top-25 team in the state before last week's rankings, Millikan retained its spot in the top 25 despite the loss.
