Rose Bowl will host 2022 Division 1 Southern Section football championship game

The CIF Southern Section made the announcement on Thursday afternoon.

The 2022 Division 1 Southern Section football championship game will be played at the Rose Bowl, according to the CIF Southern Section. The game will be played Friday, Nov. 25th at 7:30 p.m.

The Rose Bowl will also be the home of the newly created California High School Football Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is set to open at the end of year ahead of the CIF-SS Division 1 championship game.

“We are excited to partner with the historical national landmark that is the Rose Bowl this November,” Southern Section Commissioner Rob Wigod said in a press release. “We look forward to bringing the very best high school football in the country to Pasadena and ‘America’s Stadium’ to help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of this iconic venue.”

The Hall was financed thanks to donations from Brian Panish and Mickey Segal to the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation. Panish was an athlete at St. John Bosco and the Braves football stadium is named in his honor. Segal played football at Pasadena High School.

Athletes, coaches and citizens who made a difference in California High School football will be eligible for the Hall of Fame. The CIF will provide photos and other background information to the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation after individuals earn induction.
