SBLive's 2022 California high school baseball all-state team: McClatchy's Malcolm Moore is player of the year

With the spring 2022 California high school baseball season in the books, it’s time to unveil SBLive's California all-state baseball team.

The statewide team features 20 position players and ten pitchers including a player of the year and a pitcher of the year. The players were selected by SBLive reporter Bodie DeSilva.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Malcolm Moore – McClatchy – Senior

Moore was named the California Gatorade Player of the Year following his junior season and came right back with even better numbers as a senior. The Stanford-signee capped off his career by hitting .500 with 15 doubles and 13 home runs.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR

JJ Hollis – JSerra – Junior

Hollis was SBLive’s selection for Southern Section Player of the Year after finishing the season with a 9-0 record and an ERA of 1.01. The UC Santa Barbara commit struck out 54 batters in 63.1 innings this spring.

PITCHERS

Cole Clark – Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) – Senior

Clark pitched 13 times for the Knights this season, finishing with an 8-2 record and a 1.68 ERA over 71 innings. The Loyola Marymount-signee struck out 63 batters.

Ben Jacobs – Huntington Beach – Senior

Jacobs was dominant throughout his senior campaign for the Oilers, finishing with an 8-2 record and a 0.94 ERA. He struck out 99 batters in 67 innings and appeared in two of Huntington Beach’s three games in their run to the Division 1 regional championship.

Jaden Noot – Sierra Canyon – Senior

Noot posted video game numbers for the Trailblazers this past season. The LSU-signee had a 10-0 and an ERA of 0.21 with 94 strikeouts.

Dylan Goff – Etiwanda – Junior

Goff was 12-0 for the Eagles this season, finishing with a 0.73 ERA. He struck out 93 batters in 86 innings.

Sam Garewal – Canyon Crest – Senior

The San Diego Section Pitcher of the Year began the season with 27 consecutive scoreless innings. He finished the season by tossing a one-hitter in the San Diego Section Division 2 championship game and was among the state’s strikeout leaders with 130 in just 69.1 innings.

Cody Delvecchio – Mission Hills – Senior

Delvecchio had eight games with double digit strikeouts this past season including a game with 18 against Westview in May. The UCLA-signee ended the year with 131 strikeouts and a 1.12 ERA.

Isaiah Magdaleno – Crespi – Junior

Magdaleno was dominant in 46.1 innings on the mound for the Celts this season, finishing with a 6-0 record and a 0.91 ERA. The Hawaii commit struck out 55 batters.

Blake Rogers – St. Francis (Mountain View) – Senior

Rogers took on a huge workload for the Lancers this season, pitching 70.1 innings. He finished with a 7-0 record and an ERA of 0.80. The Baylor-signee struck out 95 batters including 13 in one game against Sacred Heart Cathedral in March.

Dylan Stewart – St. Joseph Notre Dame – Senior

Stewart was 6-2 for the Pilots this season, finishing with a 1.77 ERA. He was among California’s leaders in strikeouts with 131 in 75 innings and committed to Pepperdine earlier in the season.

CATCHER

Anthony Martinez – De La Salle – Senior

Martinez helped the Spartans to a 27-6 record while hitting .411 with ten home runs and six doubles. The UC Irvine-signee drew 23 walks and struck out only twice in 124 plate appearances.

INFIELDERS

Eric Bitonti – Aquinas – Junior

Bitonti was one of many who made the case to make the all-state list as a position player or pitcher. The Oregon commit hit .526 with 17 doubles, eight home runs and three triples. He also stole 17 bases and had an ERA of 0.62 in 45.1 innings on the mound.

Grant MacArthur – Granite Hills – Senior

MacArthur, the San Diego Section player of the year, hit .440 with home runs and nine doubles for the Eagles. Pitchers tried to avoid the Hawaii-signee throughout the season, leading to 38 walks and a .639 on-base percentage.

Ryan Rivera – San Marcos – Senior

Rivera hit 12 home runs as a junior and was on pace to fly by that total before a knee injury ended his season after 22 games. The San Diego State-signee finished the year with a .527 average to go along with 12 home runs, eight doubles and five triples.

Cutter Coffey – Liberty (Bakersfield) – Senior

Coffey hit over .400 for the second straight season, finishing at .442. The Texas-signee hit 13 doubles, 12 home runs and three triples. He also stole 13 bases and walked 28 times, good for a .581 on-base percentage.

Jack Gurevitch – Notre Dame – Senior

Gurevitch led the Knights with 41 hits, finishing his final season with a .357 average, six doubles and four home runs. He’s signed with the University of San Diego.

Gavin Grahovac – Villa Park – Junior

Grahovac was a doubles machine for the Spartans, finishing his junior season with 17. The Texas A&M commit hit .376 and also added five home runs and three triples.

Ralphy Velazquez – Huntington Beach – Junior

Velazquez hit .318 with nine home runs for the Oilers. The Arizona State commit’s biggest moment of the season came in the Southern California Division 1 regional championship game, when his eighth inning two-run home run delivered the Oilers the win.

Cameron Kim – Norco – Junior

Kim took another step forward for the Cougars this season, raising his batting average up to .510. The UCLA commit had seven doubles, four home runs and stole five bases.

Austin Charles – Stockdale – Senior

Charles mashed his way to a .483 batting average to go along with 13 home runs and 13 doubles and led all of California with 57 runs batted in. He also stole 19 bases and had a 1.36 ERA in 13 appearances on the mound for the Central Section Division 1 champions. Charles has signed with UC Santa Barbara.

Lucas Kelly – Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep – Senior

Kelly followed up his big junior season with another 40-hit year. The Texas A&M-signee raised his batting average up to .449 while compiling 14 doubles, seven home runs and two triples.

OUTFIELDERS

Andrew Lamb – JSerra – Junior

Lamb was named the Southern Section Division 1 player of the year by the coaches in the section. The USC commit hit .390 with four home runs.

Henry Bolte – Palo Alto – Senior

Bolte made a huge jump during his senior season, raising his average over 100 points, up to .441. He was tied for the California lead in home runs with 13 and finished third in the state with 48 stolen bases. Bolte has signed to play at Texas.

Jake Jackson – Madison – Junior

Jackson hit .439 for the Warhawks this season, collecting 14 doubles, five home runs and three triples. The San Diego State commit also had 15 stolen bases.

Cooper Whitton – Santa Fe Christian – Senior

Whitton had a big final season for the Eagles, hitting .442 with nine home runs and seven doubles. The Washington-signee was also second in the San Diego Section with 35 stolen bases.

Austin Overn – Foothill – Senior

The incredibly athletic Overn finished with a .420 on-base percentage in his last year for the Knights. He had five triples, three doubles, two home runs and 23 stolen bases. Overn has committed to play baseball and football at USC.

Elijah Moultrie – Edison (Fresno) – Senior

Moultrie hit .409 for the Tigers this season, finishing with seven home runs and 12 doubles. The San Jose State-signee also stole 21 bases.

Cayden Munster – Clovis West – Junior

Munster was a problem for opposing pitchers all season long, finishing the year with a .604 on-base percentage. Munster ended the year with 11 doubles, three home runs and one triple and committed to Fresno State prior to the season.

Adam Enyart – Stockdale – Senior

Enyart paired with teammate and all-state selection Austin Charles to give Stockdale one of California’s best offenses. He ended the season hitting .398 with 14 doubles and five home runs and has signed to play at St. Mary’s College.
