SBLive’s San Diego Section Top 10 Football Rankings: No. 4 Helix set to travel to Mission Viejo

The Highlanders will take on a Southern Section team for the second straight game when they head north to Mission Viejo on Friday.

The rankings are compiled by reporter Bodie DeSilva and will be released every Monday throughout the 2022 fall season.

Junior quarterback Julian Sayin tossed four touchdown passes on Friday, helping the Lancers beat Torrey Pines 42-7. Carlsbad is the last remaining unbeaten team in the Avocado League.

2. Lincoln (6-1)

Lincoln scored 17 unanswered fourth quarter points to take down Cathedral Catholic 31-17 on Friday. Roderick Robinson rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns, giving him over 1,500 yards on the season.

3. Madison (6-0)

The Warhawks dominated Mira Mesa 40-14 on Friday. They racked up nine sacks and had three interceptions against the Marauders.

The Highlanders had a bye week to prepare for a trip to Mission Viejo after beating Servite a week ago. Helix lost to the Diablos 38-21 at home last season.

5. Cathedral Catholic (3-4)

The Dons overcame a slow start to briefly take a 17-14 lead over Lincoln on Friday but were unable to finish the game. A battle against unbeaten Madison is up this week.

6. Poway (6-0)

Poway returned from two weeks off and beat Del Norte, 51-20. Senior running back Conner Rath continued his dominance with 306 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

7. Granite Hills (4-2)

The Eagles were off last week following their three-point loss to No. 3 Madison. They'll host Christian before diving into league play the following week.

8. El Camino (4-2)

El Camino used a 17-point second half to defend home field and take down La Costa Canyon, 23-20.

9. Mater Dei Catholic (2-4)

The Crusaders have won two straight since their bye week, shutting out St. Augustine and Central in consecutive weeks. They'll travel to Hilltop this week before beginning Metro-Mesa League play next week.

10. Mira Mesa (4-2)

The Marauders gave up 40 points to Madison in Friday's loss after posting two consecutive shutouts prior. They'll begin Eastern League play this week.
