SBLive's North Coast Section Fab 15 football rankings: Pittsburg takes No. 1 spot over De La Salle

After third loss, Spartans move from No. 1 ranking in NCS for first time since 2004

The last time De La Salle lost to a North Coast Section foe was in 1991. Yes a span of 31 years.

The last team to do that was Pittsburg, 35-27, in the 1991 3A state title game at the Oakland Coliseum.

Pittsburg hasn't played De La Salle close for years, but after its third loss this season last week, 45-35 at St. Mary's-Stockton, the Spartans (3-3) have been moved off the NCS perch.

It sure has time to reclaim that spot and we suspect the Spartans will recharge, recoil and strike against, starting Friday with the opening of East Bay Athletic League play at California-San Ramon, ranked No. 10 in the SBLive Fab 15 NCS rankings.

The last time De La Salle wasn't No. 1 in the section was 2004 when it dropped to 1-3-1 to start the season. It ran the table and won one of its 30 straight NCS titles going away, beating then No. 1 Amador Valley-Pleasanton 41-0 in the finals.

There was very little movement among the elite 15, however Clayton Valley Charter-Concord did climb three spots after an impressive win over previous No. 13 Amador Valley-Pleasanton.

There's three games pitting two Fab 15 teams: No. 2 De La Salle at No. 10 California, No. 5 Campolindo vs. No. 8 Acalanes and No. 9 Clayton Valley at No. 6 San Ramon Valley
