SBLive’s San Diego Section Top 10 Football Rankings: Madison travels to Lincoln to end regular season

Madison and Lincoln will settle the Western League championship on Friday night.

The rankings are compiled by reporter Bodie DeSilva and will be released every Monday throughout the 2022 fall season.

1. Carlsbad (8-1)

The Lancers beat La Costa Canyon 35-0 on Friday, wrapping up an undefeated Avocado League championship, while extending their league winning streak to 24 games. They'll host Vista in a non-league game before heading into the Open Division playoffs.

2. Lincoln (8-1)

Lincoln used the bye week to prepare for this week's showdown against Madison that will determine the Western League champion.

3. Madison (9-0)

Madison made quick work of Scripps Ranch on Friday, winning 35-7. Quarterback Reggie Johnson tossed four first half touchdown passes in the win. They'll head to Lincoln on Friday in a game that will determine the Western League championship as well as the Open Division playoff seeding.

4. Poway (9-0)

Poway scored 42 points in the second quarter on Friday night on their way to a 42-20 win over Mt. Carmel. They'll look to finish the regular season undefeated when they travel to rival Rancho Bernardo to play for the Palomar League title on Friday.

5. Helix (7-2)

Helix used their passing attack to beat Grossmont 42-17 on Friday. Junior quarterback Ryland Jessee finished with 304 passing yards and six touchdown passes including three to senior tight end Quincy Herron. They'll host Granite Hills for the league championship on Friday.

6. Granite Hills (7-2)

The Eagles shutout Steele Canyon and have now allowed three points over their past 12 quarters. They'll make the trip west to Helix on Friday with the Grossmont-Hills League title on the line.

7. Cathedral Catholic (4-5)

The Dons were tied at 14 with St. Augustine before pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 41-27 victory. They'll head to Scripps Ranch on Friday looking to even up their record on the season.

8. Mater Dei Catholic (5-4)

The Crusaders blew past Bonita Vista on Friday, 55-0, collecting their fifth straight shutout. They'll look to grab a second straight undefeated Metro-Mesa League title against Eastlake this week.

9. Mission Hills (6-3)

Mission Hills edged out El Camino on the road last week, 14-13. They'll finish up the regular season by hosting San Marcos and are still alive for an Open Division playoff berth.

The Wildcats had their four-game winning streak snapped with a one-point loss to Mission Hills on Friday. They'll travel to rival Oceanside on Friday to wrap up the regular season.
