Sunnyside sophomore Tanner Wilson is SBLive's Northern California Athlete of the Week (Oct. 13-15)

Quarterback puts up more huge numbers on the field and even bigger totals on the voting front to earn the weekly award

Tanner Wilson is having a monster sophomore football season. 

The quarterback from Sunnyside-Fresno has thrown for more than 2,800 yards and 32 touchdowns in his first eight games. 

On Oct. 15 he accounted for more than 500 yards and six touchdown in a 48-35 win over Torres. He completed 21 of 27 for 350 yards and four TDs and rushed 12 times for a career-high 156 yards and two more scores. 

That earned him a spot on the SBLive Performance List. 

Then he went out and accumulated more big numbers on the voting front to earn the SBLive Northern California Athlete of the Week for games played Oct. 13-15. 

Wilson accumulated more than 60 percent of the vote to edge Caden Muir, of Hanford, who picked up more than 38 percent of the vote. Nearly 40 candidates with huge numbers on the field made the list.

Here are the other athletes who were nominated for the week of Oct. 13-15: 

Charles Brown, an Antioch senior running back, rushed 22 times for 202 yards and two touchdowns and added two catches for 41 yards in a 23-14 home win over Heritage-Brentwood.

Asante Carter, a junior tailback at St. Mary’s-Stockton, rushed 17 times for 100 yards and five touchdowns in a 63-33 win over Tracy.

Zayden Crockett, a tailback for De Anza-Richmond, rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns in a 46-13 win over Salesian-Richmond.

Chris Dodson, a 5-11, 170-pound senior cornerback, receiver and kicker for Elk Grove, had three interceptions, two returned for touchdowns, in a 62-8 win over Pleasant Grove. Dodson also booted six extra points.

Arthur Draeger, a senior running back/defensive back for Liberty Ranch-Galt, rushed for 248 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-14 win over Bradshaw Christian-Sacramento.

Luke Duncan, a senior quarterback at Miramonte headed for UCLA, completed 12 of 19 passes for 289 yrds and five touchdowns in a 56-28 win over Benicia.

Ryan Given, a 5-11, 225-pound senior defensive end and guard for Pioneer-San Jose, had 13 tackles (10 solo) in a 21-14 win over Piedmont Hills-San Jose.

Ty Grigsby, a senior running back for East Nicolaus, rushed 17 times for 230 yards and five touchdowns in a 54-28 win at Winters.

Johnathan Guerrero, a senior receiver-defensive back at De La Salle-Concord, caught five passes for 104 yards and one touchdowns and intercepted a pass in a 41-7 win over California-San Ramon.

Dhiraj Gurung, a running back for Washington-San Francisco, accounted for 273 total yards on just nine touches and intercepted three, while scoring three touchdowns, in a 52-34 win over Lowell.

Sawyer Hokanson, a junior quarterback at University Prep, completed 9 of 12 passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns to four different receivers in a 38-0 win at Anderson.

Matt Kinoshita, a senior running back for Pleasant Valley-Chico, led a 28-0 charge and 28-14 win over arch-rival Chico in the Almond Bowl, with 17 carries for 143 yards and two touchdowns.

Jacob Lang, a 5-9, 180-pound senior running back at Westmont-Campbell, rushed 20 times for 233 yards and four touchdowns, in a 42-17 win over Leigh-San Jose. One of his runs was a 97-yard TD. For the season, Lang has carried just 89 times for 958 yards (10.8 per carry) and 12 TDs.

Andre Latimore, a junior quarterback for Del Mar-San Jose, needed just seven carries to rush for 162 yards and four touchdowns in a 50-0 win over Yerba Buena.

Jesiah Machado, a senior quarterback at Sheldon-Sacramento, completed 17 of 23 for 396 yards and six touchdowns in a 38-17 win at Davis.

Austin Mack, Folsom’s junior quarterback, completed 28 of 42 for 399 yards and five touchdowns in a 34-7 win over Del Oro.

Anthony Mahaffey, a senior quarterback at El Dorado-Placerville, completed 19 of 27 passes for 248 yards and added a rushing TD in a 56-0 win over Galt.

Gabe Martinez, a quarterback for Overfelt-San Jose, completed 8 of 9 passes for 345 yards and four touchdowns in a 43-0 win over Prospect.

Caleb Matthews, a sophomore quarterback at Justin Garza-Fresno, threw for 301 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for another score, in a 58-40 loss to Edison-Fresno.

Caden Muir, a senior quarterback for Hanford, completed 18 of 22 passes for for 309 yards and four touchdowns (QB rating of 161.9) in a 56-0 win over Tulare Western.

Scott Nixon, a senior receiver at Sheldon, had 10 catches for 303 yards and four touchdowns, and added 50 yards rushing, in a 38-17 win at Davis.

Dacen Pritchard, a senior running back for Aptos, rushed 17 times for 205 yards and three touchdowns in a 44-41 win over previously unbeaten Salinas.Niall Raby, a senior running back for West Valley-Cottonwood, rushed 20 times for 123 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-7 win over Lassen.

Brandon Ramirez, a senior running back and safety for San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno, needed just six carries to rush for 200 yards and five touchdowns in a 56-0 win over Bullard. The Fresno State-bound athlete has rushed just 10 times for 341 yards and eight TDs in two games.

Jaden Rashada, Pittsburg’s senior quarterback, accounted for four touchdowns in a 51-0 win over Deer Valley-Antioch.

Michael Runnels, a senior running back at Buchanan-Clovis, rushed 18 times for 195 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-24 win over Clovis.

Adam Shaffer, a 6-2, 212-pound senior quarterback for Salinas, threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 19 times for 94 yards and two more scores in a 44-41 loss to Aptos.

Onterrio Smith Jr., a senior wide receiver at Folsom, had nine catches for 239 yards and a touchdown in a 34-7 win over Del Oro-Loomis.

Conner Stoddard, a senior quarterback for unbeaten Downey-Modesto (8-0), passed for 387 yards and six touchdowns in a 49-13 win over Enochs-Modesto.

Jaden Suggs, a running back for unbeaten Placer-Auburn (8-0), rushed 23 times for 235 yards and four touchdowns in a 63-32 win over Nevada Union-Grass Valley.

Evan Usher, a 6-1, 180-pound sophomore running back at Woodside, rushed 17 times for 226 yards including a 96-yard touchdown in a 34-27 win over Fremont-Sunnyvale. In just 84 carries, Usher has 840 yards and 11 TDs.

Ya’J Vance, a senior quarterback at Edison-Fresno, threw for 499 yards and eight touchdowns in a 58-40 win over Justin Garza.

Dashiell Weaver, a senior quarterback at Campolindo-Moraga, accounted for all four touchdowns while completing 24 of 33 passes for 269 yards in a 27-24 win over Acalanes in a showdown between unbeaten teams.
