PASADENA, Calif. — Playing before 15,955 fans in the historic Rose Bowl, St. John Bosco defeated Mater Dei 24-22 on Friday night in the Southern Section Division 1 football championship game.

Quarterback Pierce Clarkson completed 14 of 27 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Braves to the victory.

St. John Bosco (12-1) will face Serra-San Mateo (13-0) in the CIF State Open Division title game on Dec. 10 at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.
