SBLive’s San Diego Section Top 10 Boys Basketball Rankings: No. 2 San Ysidro will travel to Phoenix for Hoophall West

San Ysidro is averaging 81 points per game during their first four games of the season.

The third week of the high school basketball season in the San Diego Section saw lots of movement including three new teams making their way into the rankings.

SBLive’s San Diego Section high school boys basketball rankings are compiled by SBLive California reporter Bodie DeSilva and will be released every Monday throughout the winter 2022-23 season.

December 5, 2022

1. St. Augustine (6-0)

The Saints handled business in their lone game last week, beating No. 8 El Camino, 74-54. They'll play at No. 4 Carlsbad on Tuesday before heading to the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas on December 19.

2. San Ysidro (2-2)

San Ysidro beat Vincent Memorial 97-40 on Thursday and had six players finish with double digit scoring efforts. They'll host Vista on Monday before a trip to Phoenix over the weekend that includes a game against Perry (AZ) in the Hoophall West event.

3. Torrey Pines (6-1)

The Falcons beat Orange Glen, Helix, and Cathedral Catholic by a combined 74 points last week to finish off the West Hills Tournament unbeaten. They head to Del Norte on Wednesday for a non-league battle.

4. Carlsbad (7-1)

Carlsbad finished 3-1 in the Diablo Inferno at Mission Viejo, losing to Orange Lutheran 76-65 on Friday. They'll play three times this week including a huge game against No. 1 St. Augustine on Tuesday.

5. Montgomery (3-1)

Montgomery held their own at home against Mission Hills, handing the Grizzlies their first loss of the season on Saturday night. They'll have all week to prepare for an out-of-section battle against Providence.

6. Mater Dei Catholic (4-1)

Mater Dei Catholic has won four straight since dropping their opener against No. 3 Torrey Pines. They beat San Marcos, Cathedral Catholic and Bishop's over the course of four days to finish off last week.

7. Cathedral Catholic (3-3)

The Dons beat El Camino on Tuesday before falling to No. 6 Mater Dei Catholic and No. 3 Torrey Pines later in the week. They'll head up to Sacramento for three games in the Father Barry Classic later this week.

8. El Camino (1-2)

The Wildcats dropped both games last week, on the road against No. 1 St. Augustine and No. 7 Cathedral Catholic. Cross-league games against Rancho Bernardo and Del Norte are scheduled this week.

9. La Costa Canyon (3-3)

Ty Hendler La Costa Canyon

The Mavericks beat Santa Fe Christian on Tuesday and split games with Sheldon and Campolindo at the Sheldon Invitational in Sacramento over the weekend. A trip to Poway is set for Friday.

10. Mission Bay (7-2)

Mission Bay beat Westview and Bonita Vista to finish out last week and will play Morse on Tuesday to continue the Hilltop Tournament.
