Southern Section scores/Open Division roundup: Centennial, Notre Dame, Harvard-Westlake, West Ranch prevail

The Big 3 from Notre Dame combined for 55 in impressive win at Bishop Montgomery

They're known as the Big Three for a reason. 

Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks' trio of Gonzaga-bound Dusty Stromer (20 points), Duke-bound Caleb Foster (18) and Houston commit Mercy Miller (17) combined for all but 16 of their team's points in an impressive 71-63 win at Bishop Montgomery-Torrance in Southern Section Open Division Pool A play. 

Notre Dame, considered the fifth seed overall, improved to 21-9 while fourth-seed Bishop Montgomery dropped to 25-3.

Corona Centennial 68, Sierra Canyon-Chatsworth 63: Duke-bound Jared McCain had a game-high 22 points, made four free throws in the final 20 seconds and was 11 of 13 from the line for the game in a terrific home win for the Huskies (25-3) over the Trailblazers (20-8), which got 21 points by Ashton Hardaway and 13 by Bronny James. Pool A play continues Tuesday when Centennial hosts Notre Dame and Sierra Canyon visits Bishop Montgomery. 

Centennial Corona (California) cruised past Liberty (Nevada) 90-64 in Nike Extravaganza showdown at Mater Dei High School On January 28, 2023.

Eric Freeny (13), Centennial had 13 points in Friday's win. 

POOL B

West Ranch-Valencia 55, St. John Bosco 53: Boise State-bound Andrew Meadow had 17 points including a 3-point play with nine seconds to play, according to the Los Angeles Daily News, to lead the host Wildcats (27-1). Bosco's Xinyi Li had a game-high 23 points that didn't include a 3-pointer that swished just after the buzzer. 

Jazz Gardner and Jaqari Miles combined for 17 points for West Ranch, which trailed 23-14 in the second quarter but found its way. 

Harvard-Westlake 69, St. Bernard 57: The second-seed overall and top seed in Pool B got off to a good start with a 16-5 lead after one. But from there, St. Bernard (21-6) hung tough. Four-star prospect Brady Dunlap had 24 points and sophomore Nikolas Khamenia added 12 for the Wolverines (29-1). 

Pool B will continue Tuesday with Harvard Westlake hosting St. John Bosco and St. Bernard traveling to West Ranch. 

The winner of Pool A plays the winner of Pool B for the Open Division championship March 25 at the Honda Center. All eight teams advance to the CIF Southern California regional.
