SAN DIEGO -- Playing in the San Diego Section Division 1 championship game for the second straight season, La Jolla Country Day flipped their result from a year ago, defeating top-seeded Mission Bay, 63-56.

The Torreys grabbed the lead in the first quarter and never relinquished it, leading the Buccaneers by seven points after each the second and third quarters. The Buccaneers hung around in the second half but were unable to get the Torreys to break.

La Jolla Country Day missed seven free throws in the final quarter as Mission Bay began to play the foul game but the Buccaneers were unable to capitalize offensively, securing the first CIF title for La Jolla Country Day since 2016.

Senior guard Jake Altman, who fouled out in the final minute of the game, discussed what the championship means to him in his final high school season.
