Updated CIF Southern Section 2023 softball playoff brackets: Scores, matchups, game times
Of all things, rain was the biggest obstacle for CIF Southern Section softball teams Thursday in the first round of the playoffs.
Five of the eight Division 1 matchups were postponed and rescheduled for Friday due to the unseasonably wet weather.
Pacifica did get past La Mirada 6-5 in eight innings thanks to a walk-off double by winning pitcher Brynne Nally. According to the Orange County Register, Delaina Ma'ae sent the game to extra innings with a two-run home run.
Huntington Beach's Zoe Prystajko struck out 14 batters and fired a four-hitter in a 12-1 win over Torrance. Sophia Knight had four hits and five RBI.
In the other Thursday D1 game played, defending champion Roosevelt was eliminated 10-0 by Orange Lutheran, which got a home run and five RBI from Tessa JeRue. Orange Lutheran scored six in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to stop the game due to the mercy rule.
The tournament in all seven divisions concludes May 12-13.
Other defending champions are Mission Viejo (D2), Bonita (D3), Moorpark (D4), Cajon (D5), Hillcrest (D6) and Capistrano Valley Christian (D7).
Norco (24-3) is the top seed in Division I while Los Alamitos (24-3), the section runner-up last season, is No. 2. Norco defeated Los Alamitos 13-8 on March 11 in a tournament game. Both teams were rained out Thursday
