Kate Munnerlyn throws no-hitter, Rebecca Quinn homers as California's No. 6 team Saint Francis downs No. 5 Mitty 2-0

The Lancers gain revenge, tie Mitty for West Catholic Athletic League lead with stellar home win; Home run, three hits from Rebecca Quinn keys the offense

A big Northern California softball showdown lived up to all billings Friday at Saint Francis High School in Mountain View.

Junior pitcher Kate Munnerlyn threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Rebecca Quinn broke up a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the sixth, leading the host Lancers to a 2-0 West Catholic Athletic League win over Mitty.

Mitty came into the game ranked fifth in the state by SBLive Sports and Saint Francis was No. 6.

The victory turned around a 3-2 Mitty win over Saint Francis on April 19. In that game, the host Monarchs rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth. This time, that's when the Lancers struck.

Quinn finished 3-for-3 with a single, double and home run, the latter drove in Ali Mitloff.

"I was anticipating that pitch and I knew what I had to do," Quinn told Bay Area News Group reporter Joseph Dycus of her game-winning homer.

The rest was left up to Munnerly, who walked just two and benefitted from near perfect defense. She improved to 12-2 with a 0.79 ERA. She has 125 strikeouts in 80 innings with just 13 walks.

Mitty freshman Kyleigh Mace, who was the winning pitcher in the first game, allowed just five hits on Friday. She had the Lancers shutout for five innings before Quinn's home run.

Mitty improved to 22-2 and 7-1 in WCAL play, while Mitty dropped to 18-3 and 7-1.

Since the loss to Mitty, the Lancers have won six straight by a combined margin of 61-2. The loss ended a 10-game winning streak for the Monarchs.

Before Mitty's win over Saint Francis last month, the Lancers had won eight straight over their WCAL rivals, including the Central Coast Section Division 1 title last year.

Both teams have two games remaining in WCAL play.
