Bonita junior Jared Brunk is SBLive's Southern California Athlete of the Week (May 1-7)

The right-hand hitting infielder had three hits including a double and two RBI in big Southern Section D1 playoff win to earn coveted prize

Athletic, smooth and strong, Jared Brunk has all the tools. 

He also comes through in the clutch. 

In a first-round Southern Section Division 1 baseball game versus Arcadia, the middle infielder and pitcher for Bonita went 3 for 5 with a double and two runs batted in during an 11-2 victory. 

The 6-foot, 185-pound junior was placed on a SBLive performance list and from there, his fans and friends really came through.

Brunk piled up more than 50 percent of the votes (53.04) to beat out Crespi baseball standout Christopher Arce (28.6 percent) to win the SBLive Southern California Athlete of the Week (May 1-7), presented by Jersey Mike's Subs. 

After his big performance, Brunk closed out the season going 2 for 3 in 5-3 loss to Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks to finish hitting .339 for the season with 21 hits, 12 RBI, five doubles and a homer.

Derek Curiel, Orange Lutheran baseball: Curiel went 3-4 with a walk, a run batted in and a stolen base in Wednesday's playoff win against Arlington.

Tyler Barsness, Palm Desert baseball: Barsness had two hits including a walk-off single to help the Aztecs beat Segerstrom in round one of the Southern Section playoffs on Thursday.

Gavin Grahovac, Villa Park baseball: Grahovac hit his fifth home run of the season in Thursday's shutout win against Damien.

Alex Umland, Windward baseball: Umland tossed a no-hitter, striking out 11 batters in Thursday's 1-0 playoff win against Hillcrest.

Colin Brown, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame baseball: Brown had two hits and drove in the only run during Thursday's 1-0 win over Hart.

Austen Roellig, Etiwanda baseball: Roellig had a three-run double in Thursday's 5-2 playoff win against Capistrano Valley.

Christopher Arce, Crespi baseball: Arce went 4-4 with two runs batted in during Friday's 9-0 win against Grace Brethren.

Chandler Henry, Granite Hills baseball: Henry threw a complete game shutout against Grossmont, striking out 10 batters in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Grossmont.

Henry Gibson, Carlsbad baseball: Gibson had a .600 on-base percentage last week, finishing with two home runs, two doubles and four runs batted in.

Kevin Takeuchi, Rancho Bernardo baseball: Takeuchi has a hit in eight straight games and hit three home runs in last week's series against Poway.

Isaiah Lane, Eastlake baseball: Lane had a .615 on-base percentage last week, finishing with a triple, a double, four walks and seven runs batted in.

Van Coughlin, La Jolla Country Day baseball: Coughlin hit his sixth and seventh home runs of the season during last week's series against Francis Parker.

Eva Hurtado, JSerra softball: Hurtado tossed a no-hitter in Thursday's 8-0 win over Warren.

Emily McCoskey, Diamond Ranch softball: McCoskey threw a four-hitter and hit a three-run home run in last week's 4-1 playoff win over Arlington.

Aria Phruksukarn, Mira Mesa softball: Phruksukarn had four hits including two doubles and a home run and drove in five runs during Monday's win over Morse.

Paige Wilson, Carlsbad softball: Wilson threw a one-hitter, striking out eight batters in Monday's 4-0 win over San Pasqual.

Jazmin Williams, Steele Canyon softball: Williams had two home runs and a double and drove in six runs during Monday's 12-10 win over Grossmont.

Cadyn Ruffer, Valhalla softball: Ruffer went 3-3 with a double and a walk during Monday's 4-2 win over Clairemont.
