De La Salle golfers win second straight CIF state title, shoot remarkable 9-under team score at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach

Joshua Kim and Jack Jerge combine to go 9-under themselves as Spartans win by 10 strokes over Torrey Pines

There was no resting on their drivers or putters.

De La Salle-Concord's golf team simply took it to another level by shooting a 9-under team score of 346 Wednesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach to win its second straight CIF State golf championship and third overall.

Joshua Kim shot a 5-under 66 and teammate Jack Jerge added a 67 to lead the way for the Spartans, who defeated runner-up Torrey Pines (356) by 10 strokes.

Crystal Springs Uplands-Hillsborough (363) was third followed by Oaks Christian (367), Tesoro (368) and Granite Bay (373).

Luke Powell, of Capistrano Valley Christian, was medalist with a 7-under round of 64. Kim and Amador Valley-Pleasanton's Kush Arora tied for second and Jerge and Torrey Pines' Joshua Chung tied for fourth at 67 over the famed 7,002-yard, par-71 course that co-hosted the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am for 18 years on the PGA Tour.

Other to break 70 were Phillip Kench (Torrey Pines), Dylan Block (Tesoro) and Edan Cui (Crystal Springs) at 68 and Connor Williams (San Pasqual), Stephen Luo (Anaheim Discovery Christian) and Ryan Abuan (Great Oak), who each shot 69.

Other De La Salle players were Jaden Dumdumaya (70), James Williams (71) and Jack Hayden (72). The Spartans threw out a 75 from Colin Keith.

This comes on the heels of defeating runner-up Torrey Pines by 11 strokes in last year's state championship at San Gabriel Country Club in Los Angeles County.

Kim, Dumdumaya, Jerge and Colin Keith were part of the championship team last season.

That team was considered perhaps the best in state history after finishing a cumulative 26-under par over four postseason tournaments. The returning players clearly were not satisfied.

The 2023 team won the Northern California championship by 13 strokes at Berkeley Country Club in El Cerrito on May 22.

The Spartans have had a strong run in the spring sport, winning NCS titles in baseball, swimming and track and field.
