Watch: Lowell manager Daryl Semien, ace Finean Hunter-Kenney interview after NorCal title win over University

SAN FRANCISCO — It's a long haul the baseball season. 

The spring season goes by quick, but for programs like Lowell-San Francisco, it's basically a year-long process. 

The San Francisco Section power finished off its long journey with a win in the pinnacle game, a first-ever CIF Northern California championship with a clean, crisp 4-0 win over University at scenic Paul Goode Field in the Presidio. 

Semien, who commutes more than an hour each way from Oakley to coach at his alma mater, was very emotional after the win, not only considering his team's long journey, but also the passing of his stepmother Peggy during the pandemic. 

Hunter-Kenney has been the Cardinals' ace all season and pitched 6.2 innings of the team's 11-3 win over Washington May 18 for the San Francisco Section title at Oracle Park. Lowell coaches had to relieve Hunter-Kennedy in that one due to pitch count rules. 

Saturday he got to finish and begin a raucous dog pile near the mound.
