SBLive's 2023 All-North Coast Section softball team

Pinole Valley's Kailani Tatro is Player of the Year but this 25-person squad is filled with stars, many on championship teams

June is gone. The season has been over for nearly a month. Almost all media groups have offered their postseason awards.

Here is ours:

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

P Kailani Tatro (Pinole Valley)

What a career. What a finish to a career. What might have been had the pandemic not struck? The senior pitcher led the Spartans to another banner season, this one at 29-2 and their fourth North Coast Section title and first since 2009 by going 29-2 with a 0.77 ERA and 277 strikeouts. She also hit .538 with 49 hits, 22 doubles, four homers while driving in 41. She's signed to Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. SEE COMPLETE STORY

PITCHERS

Kaitlyn Le (California)

The first-team all-EBAL performer and first team All-Bay Area News Group, Le led the Grizzlies to a first North Coast Section title, going 19-6 with 110 strikeouts.

Paige McLeod (San Ramon Valley)

A signee to Illinois State, McLeod went 15-6 with a 0.89 ERA and 220 strikeouts, the fifth most in the section. First-team All Metro by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Alexandra Mello (Granada)

A sparkling 17-2 record with 110 strikeouts and 1.16 ERA for the Matadors, who finished 21-6. First team All-Metro San Francisco Chronicle and Bay Area News Group.

Tatro (Pinole Valley)

The overall Player of the year pitched almost every inning of every game in her four-year career, going 74-12 with a 1.34 ERA with 783 strikeouts in 529 career innings. Her career hitting numbers: 149 hits in 277 at-bats, 130 RBI, 53 doubles, four triples and 12 home runs. Was San Francisco Chronicle’s Metro Player of the Year.

Jasmine Whorley (Alameda)

The West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division Player of the Year went 12-2 with a 0.86 ERA. She had 174 strikeouts and just 73 hits allowed in 113 innings.

CATCHERS

Apple Maldonado (Antioch)

Only a junior, Maldonado has already committed to Weber State as a catcher. She largely played shortstop as a sophomore and was the Bay Valley Athletic League Player of the Year, hitting .598 with 49 hits, 35 RBI, 16 doubles and six home runs.

McKenna Charbonneau (Amador Valley)

Only a sophomore, the talented all-around player hit .440 with 37 hits, 35 RBI and 10 home runs. She also threw out 10 base runners.

INFIELDERS

Jazzy Alcantar (Encinal)

Only a sophomore, Alcantar hit .400 (44 of 88) with 42 RBI, including 10 doubles and six triples.

Delaney Aumua (Granada)

Another sophomore, Aumua was first-team All-East Bay Athletic League by hitting .443 with eight home runs.

Soo-Jim Berry (Clayton Valley Charter)

The senior shortstop and third baseman finished off a brilliant career by hitting .451 with 32 hits, 26 RBI, nine doubles, five triples and six home runs.

Alex Cutonilli (Heritage)

The senior first, second and third baseman had a banner year, hitting .507 with nine home runs, 37 RBI and 32 runs. 

Madison Evers-Lyles (Freedom)

Only a junior, Evers-Lyles hit .536 with 45 hits, a North Coast Section-best 44 RBI with nine doubles and eight home runs.

Jamie McGaughey (Casa Grande)

A senior, McGaughey was the Valley Vine Athletic League Player of the Year, co-leading the NCS with 11 home runs to go along with a .438 batting average.

Marina Sacrey (San Leandro)

Another sophomore, Sacrey finished fourth in NCS in batting average (players with more than 50 at-bats) at .644 with 47 hits, which ranked second. She also had 18 doubles, three triples and six home runs.

Lola Whalen (Encinal)

Whalen, a junior third baseman and first baseman, led the section in home runs with 11 to go along with 42 hits and 39 RBIs.

OUTFIELDERS

Aneesa Brewer (Pinole Valley)

The senior hit .383 for the NCS D3 champions, with 36 hits, 27 RBI, 10 doubles, three triples and four home runs. She also scored 35 runs and stole 13 bases.

Sophia Everett (San Rafael)

First team All-Marin County Athletic League hit .556 with 38 runs, 35 hits and nine home runs for the 14-8 Bulldogs.

Jaida Fulcher (American Canyon)

The Valley Vine Offensive Player of the Year hit .463 with 31 RBI. The senior also had 31 hits, five doubles and six home runs.

Sophia Jin (San Ramon Valley)

Second-team All-Bay Area News Group, hit .484 with 27 runs and 28 stolen bases for the EBAL tournament champions.

Margo-Malaika Weaver (St. Mary’s)

A first-team all Tri-County Athletic League performer hit a blistering .603 with 31 RBI, seven doubles, six triples and four home runs.

Emma Wood (College Park)

First-team All-Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division pick drove in 19 runs and hit .382 for the Falcons (17-9).

UTILITY

Aribella Farrell (St. Helena)

Farrell led the Saints (23-5) to their first NCS title with a 2-0 win over Cloverdale in the D5 finals thanks to a one-hitter from Farrell, who was also the hitting star with two run-scoring singles. She finished the season with a team best 33 RBI to go with 29 hits and seven doubles.

Callie Howard (Cardinal Newman)

Led the Cardinals (18-10) to a first North Coast Section title with a 3-0 win over Del Norte for the Division 4 crown. Howard struck out 12 in that game and allowed just two hits. She finished the season 13-5 with a 1.74 ERA and 163 strikeouts in 124 innings. She also hit .500 with 47 hits, 31 RBIs and 11 doubles.

Lila Partridge (Casa Grande)

The sophomore hit .500 with 10 home runs and had 38 RBI while also going 14-2 on the mound with a 1.38 ERA.

Maya Soto (Freedom)

The Bay Valley Athletic League Player of the Year hit .443 with 39 hits and four runs. She was also 8-4 on the mound.
