Brandon McCoy, nation's No. 1 2026 boys basketball recruit, talks about CIF State title win
SACRAMENTO — Brandon McCoy is a young man in high demand and flight.
The 6-foot-4 sophomore guard for St. John Bosco is considered the No. 1 recruit in the country for the 2026 class by 247Sports.
He finished the season on a high points with 18 points, seven rebounds, four dunks and four blocks in a 78-62 win over San Ramon Valley on Friday night in a CIF Division 1 championship game at Golden 1 Center, home of the Sacramento Kings.
Dunking on an NBA court en route to a state-title victory must have been exhilarating for McCoy, whose versatility — he's also a three-level scorer, driver to the bucket, defender and passer — is what sets him apart.
So what part of the game does he prefer most?
"Winning," he said simply. "I love winning."
More of his humble behavior was shown when asked about athletic idols and instead of offering LeBron James or Stephen Curry or Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant from the past, McCoy simply said. "My parents are my idols."
McCoy talked about his first season at Bosco, after transferring from Bishop O'Dowd-Oakland, his hometown, the adjustment, the up-and-down nature of an ultimately triumphant season and the feeling of walking off the court a champion.
