St. John Bosco wins second California (CIF) boys basketball title, beats San Ramon Valley going away: Live update recap

Braves shoot 61 percent from the field, get combined 38 points from Jack Turner and Brandon McCoy in 78-62 win for the Division 1 championship at Golden 1 Center

SACRAMENTO — San Ramon Valley's boys basketball basketball team had an answer to nearly every challenge during a magical 2023-24 run. But St. John Bosco's game was un-answerable. 

The battle-tested Braves, known as a football school, captured their second CIF State championship, this with a nearly flawless, wire-to-wire 78-62 Division 1 title win Friday over the Wolves 

Jack Turner scored 20 points, Brandon McCoy added 18, Elzie Harrington 12 and Chris Komin 11 as the Braves finished 28-7. McCoy, a 6-foot-4 guard and top-rated sophomore in the country, also had seven rebounds, five dunks and  and Harrington added seven assists. 

San Ramon Valley, which never got within six points after the first quarter, was led by 18 points by Luke Isaak and 13 from Jason Thomas.  The Wolves finished 29-8. The Wolves couldn't overcome lights out shooting by Bosco, which made 59 percent from the floor while SRV shot 40 percent.

The 2024 California (CIF) boys and girls high school basketball state championships have arrived. All 12 state championship games will be played at Golden 1 Center, the home of the Sacramento Kings.

3RD QUARTER UPDATES

St. John Bosco 56, San Ramon Valley 45 (end of 3): Bosco has answered every SRV flurry. Battle-tested. 

St. John Bosco 55 San Ramon Valley 42 (1:31): After driving layup by Elliot Conley closed to within 48-42, Bosco rattles off quick seven capped by a 3-pointer from another 3-pointer from Turner. 

2ND QUARTER UPDATES

St. Johs Bosco 36, San Ramon Valley 28 (halftime): SRV with 17-8 run in second quarter closes the gap. Turner (SJB) and Thomas (SRV) lead all scorers with 13 points each.

St. John Bosco 30, San Ramon Valley 20 (5:26): Wolves hit three quick 3s. They won't go away. Very scrappy, battle-tested, prideful team. Plus they have a couple thousand fans making a lot of noise. 

1ST QUARTER UPDATES:

St. John Bosco 28, San Ramon Valley 11 (end of 1): Bosco makes 11 of 16 from the floor, 5 of 7 on 3s as Braves put on a clinic. Jack Turner 2-for-2 on 3s and has eight points.
