McCall Biemiller, Jake Rupp lead Jesuit to 8-3 win over Hillsborough in Saladino Tournament quarterfinals

Biemiller did not give up his first hit until the sixth inning

TAMPA, Fla. - Sophomore left-handed pitcher McCall Biemiller pitched six strong innings and Jake Rupp drove in three runs to lead Jesuit to an 8-3 victory over Hillsborough on Monday night at Hyde Family Park in Tampa.

Biemiller pitched a scoreless first inning for Jesuit (8-3), after allowing a leadoff walk to Mallo and senior first baseman Sal Urso to reach on an error by Tiger shortstop Jacob Lozano.

The scoring started fast and furious in the first inning for the Tigers (8-3). Junior Grant Jordan smoked a two-run triple down the right-field line to give Jesuit an early 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Jake Rupp hit a hard single up the middle to make it 3-0. Josh Hines followed up with an RBI single to extend their lead to 4-0. The Tigers added a fifth run in the inning, as senior outfielder Dariel Pirela scored on a wild pitch.

In the second inning, Biemiller looked dominant, striking out the side on just 10 pitches.

In the bottom half of the inning, sophomore right-handed pitcher Cameron Mallo retired the Tigers in order after a rocky start.

In the third inning, the Terriers (6-2) got on the board courtesy of a sacrifice fly by senior Tanner Jones. Later in the inning, Biemiller threw a wild pitch that allowed two runs to score, making it 5-3 Tigers. Biemiller did not give up a hit in the inning.

In the bottom of the third inning, Tigers junior catcher Josh Hines tripled into the right-field gap to push the lead back up to three runs (6-3).

Biemiller went back to work in the fourth inning, striking out the side for the second time in the game.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tigers got some huge insurance runs on a two-run home run by Rupp.

Biemiller did not give up his first hit until the sixth inning when sophomore first baseman Aidan Morales roped a two-out single

The Tigers sent out sophomore pitcher Aden Morales in the seventh inning. He retired the Terriers in order to seal the 8-3 victory.

Hillsborough will face Steinbrenner in the consolation bracket Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Jefferson High School

Jesuit will face Sickles in the semifinals Friday at 1 p.m. at Jesuit High School. The Gryphons were 10-3 winners over Steinbrenner earlier Monday.
