American Heritage (Plantation) forward and future Florida State Seminole Ta’Niya Latson has been named the Florida (FHSAA) Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Latson is the first Lady Patriot in school history to take home the award.

Latson led the Lady Patriots to a 25-5 record and their fifth consecutive state championship, averaging 27.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game this season.

Latson excels in the classroom as well with a 4.31 grade point average.

“I couldn’t be prouder of (Latson), she works extremely hard and can’t think of anyone else that deserves this award,” American Heritage Plantation girls basketball coach Greg Farias said.
