Dijon Johnson, Under Armour All-American cornerback, commits to Ohio State; Florida pipeline continues

It's still early in the 2023 recruiting cycle, but the Ohio State Buckeyes have clearly made the state of Florida a massive priority.

Having already secured American Heritage four-star running back Mark Fletcher, Cocoa four-star safety Cedrick Hawkins and Wiregrass Ranch three-star wide receiver Bryson Rodgers, Ryan Day's coaching staff was already rolling in, "The Sunshine State."

But they added to their haul Sunday with the addition of consensus four-star cornerback and Under Armour All-American selection Dijon Johnson, who chose the Buckeyes over offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami (Fla.), Oklahoma, USC and several others:

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound defensive back, out of Wharton High School (Tampa, Florida), is rated the nation's No. 213 overall prospect and No. 20 cornerback. 

He visited Ohio State over the weekend, which proved to be a deciding factor in his decision:

Here's what 247Sports southeast recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins had to say about Johnson as a prospect:

"A big-time cornerback prospect that has the tools required to shut down one side of the field on Saturdays. Measured roughly 6-foot-1, 190 pounds the spring before senior season. More importantly, tested in the upper percentile with a laser-timed 4.5 in the 40-yard dash on record to go along with a 4.4 short shuttle. Smooth and controlled in his backpedal as he’s quick to gain depth. Fires out of his breaks with ease more times than not and is able to change directions better than most with his length. Does a nice job of feeling out routes and putting himself in position to make plays, which he did frequently as a junior picking off six passes and returning four of them for touchdowns. Those interceptions helped a Tampa Wharton program, which is coached by former NFL first round pick Mike Williams, make a deep run in Florida's state playoffs. Not one to shy away from contact and isn’t afraid to put his hands on a wide receiver, but must contribute to develop press technique if he’s going be a true bump-and-run corner at the next level. Has to also stop relying on his extra gear to bail him out as college wideouts will be much faster. Should be viewed as one of the top prospects on Florida’s I-4 corridor for the 2023 cycle and a potential difference maker at the Power 5 level given his size, movement patterns and ability to create takeaways. NFL upside with his wingspan and speed."
