3-star cornerback commit Eddie Pleasant III on Michigan State: Coach Mel Tucker 'changed everything' for program
When college football fans think of the major recruiting powerhouse programs across the country, a lot of names come up.
Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Texas and others.
But folks would be remiss not to mention the Michigan State Spartans after the massive recruiting weekend they hosted.
Featuring several of the nation's top prospects, including Florida five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, Texas five-star running back Rueben Owens and Texas five-star defensive lineman David Hicks.
Clearly, coach Mel Tucker has generated some buzz for the Spartans.
That led to a commitment Sunday - well, publicly anyway - from 247Sports three-star cornerback Eddie Pleasant III.
The 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back, out of Carrollwood Day High School (Tampa, Florida), wasn't actually on campus this weekend.
He also didn't actually commit over the weekend.
Instead, Pleasant silently committed to the Michigan State staff during visit unofficial visit earlier this month and waited a week or so to make it public.
"I felt like (Easter) was the perfect day to do It, because I give everything and I just wanted to thank God," he said. "Without him, none of this is possible. The staff was excited - happy, yelled. They were just very happy. I already had committed, I just made the news to the world (Sunday)."
Pleasant believes Tucker has become a complete game-changer at Michigan State, where he feels there's an undeniable energy and buzz around the program this offseason.
"I feel like ever since Coach Tucker stepped in, he changed everything," he said. "He’s just changing the culture and you can tell. A lot of recruits would love to play for him, I believe."
Pleasant, rated the nation's No. 61 cornerback, plans to graduate early and enroll at Michigan State in January.
He chose the Spartans over offers from Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Penn State, Tennessee, Utah and others.
Pleasant is the sixth commitment in Michigan State's 2023 recruiting class, joining Iowa four-star offensive tackle Andrew Depaepe, Texas four-star running back Kedrick Reescano, Michigan four-star tight end Brennan Parachek, Michigan three-star interior offensive lineman Johnathan Slack and Texas three-star quarterback Bo Edmundson.
