Top 20 juniors to watch in 2022 Florida high school baseball playoffs
With the 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) baseball playoffs starting this week, we’re taking a look at the top players to watch, class by class.
From Aidan Mitchell to Hayden Gustavson, there are several talented juniors competing in the FHSAA baseball playoffs.

TOP 20 JUNIORS IN FLORIDA BASEBALL PLAYOFFS
1. Aidan Miller, INF/RHP (Mitchell)
In 24 games during the regular season, Miller posted a .400 batting average and a .557 on-base percentage for the Mustangs. Mitchell travels to Palmetto Tuesday night in the regional quarterfinals.
2. Cade Kurland, SS (Berkeley Prep)
The University of Florida commit led the state among juniors with ten home runs this season. Kurland, and the rest of the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers travel to Cardinal Mooney on Tuesday afternoon in the regional quarterfinals.
3. George Lombard, INF (Gulliver Prep)
Lombard hit nine home runs during the regular season for the Raiders and has a .495 on-base percentage.
4. Dallas Dale II, OF (Mount Dora Christian)
The future LSU Tiger posted a .595 batting average and has a team-high eight doubles this season.
5. Riley Jackson, Catcher (Eau Gallie)
Jackson has a .544 on-base percentage and has driven in 24 runs this season for the Commodores. Jackson, and the rest of the Eau Gallie Commodores will host Zephyrhills in the Class 5A, Region 3 Quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
6. Spencer Butt, INF (American Heritage Plantation)
In 25 games during the regular season, Butt had a .408 batting average and a .553 on-base percentage
7. Hunter Dietz, Left-Handed Pitcher (Calvary Christian- Clearwater)
The South Florida commit finished the regular season with a 8-0 record and a 0.54 earned run average in 11 appearances.
8. Garrett Baumann, RHP/1B (Hagerty)
In 11 pitching appearances this season for the Huskies, Baumann posted a 4-2 record and a 1.42 earned run average.
9. Braden Holcomb, SS (Foundation Academy)
The Vanderbilt verbal commit posted a .514 batting average in 26 games played during the regular season.
10. Wes Mendes, OF/LHP (Jesuit- Tampa)
In 27 games so far this season, Mendes has posted a .410 batting average. In 13 pitching appearances, Mendes has posted a 8-1 record with a 1.44 earned run average.
11. Brandon Olivera, Right-Handed Pitcher (Miami Springs)
Olivera has a .333 batting average this season for the Golden Hawks.
12. Landen Maroudis, SS/RHP (Calvary Christian- Clearwater)
In 18 games so far this season for the Warriors, Maroudis has posted a .359 batting average and a .458 on-base percentage
13. Christian Rodriguez, RHP/1B (Stoneman Douglas)
At the plate this season, Rodriguez has posted a .344 batting average and has driven in 21 runs. On the mound, Rodriguez has a 5-1 record with a 0.82 earned run average.
14. Alex Sosa, Catcher (Viera)
In 24 games during the regular season, Sosa has posted a .393 batting average and a .547 on-base percentage
15. Hudson Rowan, LHP/OF (Mosley)
In 10 relief appearances this season for the Dolphins, Rowan has a 4-2 record with a 1.63 earned run average.
16. Caden McDonald, RHP/1B (Sickles)
McDonald is one of the state’s top hitters, finishing the regular season with a .657 batting average.
17. Matthew Davis, Outfielder (Dwyer)
Davis has a .433 batting average and a .528 on-base percentage this season for the Panthers. Dwyer hosts Everglades in their regional quarterfinal Tuesday night.
18. Liam Peterson, OF/RHP (Calvary Christian- Clearwater)
In 10 relief appearances during the regular season for the Warriors; Peterson posted a 5-0 record with a 0.61 earned run average.
19. Troy Reader, Catcher/Outfielder (Berkeley Prep)
In 27 games so far this season; Reader has a .429 on-base percentage
20. Hayden Gustavson, Infielder (Columbia- Lake City)
The Florida State commit posted a .405 batting average and .530 on-base percentage in 27 games during the regular season for the Tigers. Columbia hosts St. Augustine in the Class 5A, Region 1 Quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
