SEMINOLE, FL – The all-time leader tackles leader for the University of South Florida is now a head coach on the high school football circuit.

Former USF linebacker Auggie Sanchez has accepted the head coaching job at Seminole High School, according to Sanchez. Sanchez formerly played his high school ball over at neighboring Northeast High School before starting with the Bulls.

“The Seminole job is an amazing opportunity,” Sanchez said. “The community around us will help us be successful. My vision for the program starts and ends with hard work, discipline and learning to compete. It’s an exciting time to be a Warhawk.”

Seminole is replacing Chris Miller, who stepped down as the Warhawks' head coach after nine seasons at the school. Miller’s best seasons came back in 2013-2015, 2017 when Seminole finished with a record of 3-7. The Warhawks never finished with a record better than 3-7 under Miller’s watch. Sanchez has previously served as a college assistant at Florida State University and USF.

“I have been at Seminole Middle School the last two years. I never thought the Seminole job would open,” Sanchez said. “When it did, I had numerous people in the community reach out to me to apply. That was the vote of confidence I needed. I got an interview and a few days later I got the job.”

Sanchez is very well known when it comes to being a known commodity in the Tampa Bay Area, as the former Bulls’ linebacker ended his career as the program’s all-time leading tackler and tied for the most starts in team history at 50. He was also a three-time all-conference selection at linebacker and in 2016 was a candidate for the Butkus Award.

“I am excited, you always want to be in charge and it be your vision,” Sanchez added. “I think leadership is one of the most important roles in the world. I will have growing pains and I will learn a lot but I’m excited.”
