The Bay area boasts some of the state's best volleyball programs

TAMPA, FL – When you talk about top girls' high school volleyball programs across the state of Florida, the Tampa Bay Area has to be brought into the conversation when mentioning teams. With two Tampa Bay Area teams winning state championships and a slew of others making deep runs, we wanted to take a closer look and see who you think has the best girls' high school volleyball program in Tampa Bay.

Here is our list of top contenders. Share your opinion by casting your vote.

Plant (Won the Class 8A state title in 2021): I mean, how can we talk about the area’s best volleyball teams without mentioning the Plant Panthers? The Panthers went 26-5 en route to claiming the Class 8A state championship and should make another deep run in 2022.

Calvary Christian (Won the Class 3A state title in 2021): The other team we can’t forget to mention is the Calvary Christian Warriors, which went ahead and won the Class 3A title over Westminster Christian. The Warriors went 28-4 in 2021 and could spike another title this fall. Stay tuned.

Mitchell (23-1 last season): The Mustangs were a force out of Pasco County last season, as Lea Weber had the team were humming before losing to Riverdale in the Class 6A region finals. Mitchell should be a good team once again behind a deep, talented roster.

Academy of the Holy Names (Lost in Class 4A state semifinals): The Jaguars were just one step away from playing for a state championship in Class 4A, losing to Santa Fe in three sets. Holy Names brings back another talented squad and should be in the hunt come playoff time.

Venice (Reached Class 8A region final): It’s not anything to hang your head down about when you lose to the Plant Panthers in the region finals and that’s what happened to Venice last season. The Indians finished 22-8 reaching the third round in 2021 and have the talent to get back deep into the postseason.

Weeki Wachee (Reached Class 4A region finals in 2020): The Hornets have become Hernando County’s top volleyball team while winning district championships and annually making the postseason. Though they were knocked out of the postseason a tad earlier in 2021, the Hornets are a team to watch for when talking about area’s best.
